Acute Bronchitis, Hep C and the Cough Scrip

The not-my-regular-Dr. at the clinic who saw me today as a walk-in Dxed me with

acute bronchitis

and a sinus infection. I made sure that the cough scrip was written for a no

alcohol no sugar

formula. I have the diabetes to go with the HCV, and I try to take good care

of both. [brief

aside - He didn't have time to go over my numbers in detail, said that would

have to wait for my

regular follow-up with my regular Dr., but that my liver enzyme, my fasting

glucose and my A1C

numbers from my last blood work were excellent.] When I got to the pharmacy,

I was told that no

one makes a phenergan with codeine cough formula that is no alcohol and no

sugar.

Is that true? No one makes alcohol-free sugar-free phenergan with codeine cough

syrup? And if it

isn't true, who makes it? Which pharmacy chains carry it? Because I need to

get some before I

rupture something coughing. A codeine-based cough formula is really the only

thing that has ever

worked for my bronchitis, even though I hate the stuff. My chest aches so damn

bad, and I feel

like cat shit, and if this gets much worse, I don't know what I will do. There

is literally no one

else to take care of the boys.

Conversely, how awful would it be for me to take the regular formula? I really

want to keep all of

my numbers excellent. I don't want to do anything that might even vaguely

contribute to making my

HCV or my diabetes the least bit worse, but I don't want to be hospitalized

because I can't breathe

either...

Robin----I Love wicked women! Like I told someone else recently. Take what

you have to to relieve the symptoms. Not to make light of your hcv and diabetes,

but, If you cough so hard you burst a variciee or you have to be hospitalized

because of infection.. Then your looking at a very serious condition. Please

stay on top of it. there are some very nasty bugs going around

Codeine is available in pill form. A common expectorant, guaifenesin,

is also available in pill form. Ask your doctor about that combination.

Do you now... Well, I have always loved mountain men!

Yeah, there are some nasty little bugs making the rounds, and I let myself get

way over-extended by

taking the boys on their very first trip to Disneyland last Friday. A 300 mile

round trip over the

mountains plus over 8 hours at the park, all in one exhausting day was more than

I could handle,

but I did it any way. Breaking a promise to two special needs boys, one with an

autistic disorder,

takes more courage - or stupidity - than I have on my best day.

Phenergan is also available in pill form (promethazine) --- ask your Dr to

give you the pills (Phenergan & Codeine) (2 separate prescriptions) if it

makes you uncomfortable -- but with the tight control you keep, those doses

to treat your cough are probably not enough to throw you out of whack

Here's hoping you feel real better real soon.
