What a great idea! LOL! about the paper stars. We have a few of those that

adorn our Christmas tree each year and it's traditional in our house to do paper

chain streamers all around the place. I also paint the front windows from the

inside with festive scenes. Last year we had a Rug Rats Christmas on the front

window. What I really need right now is a good ol' dose of motivation. I

really like that ornament idea. I have heaps of ribbon and stuff. Styrofoam

balls are super cheap too. Thank you so much!

Christmas is coming

Hey there anne!

Try handmade ornaments! There are some great ideas both in periodicals and

on-line, and they can be quite touching to receive. Kinda brings back the

nostalgia of all those hand-colored paper stars we brought home as kids.

Peace,

D

My perennial favorite was homemade jams and jellies, with little handcarved

rocking horses, tiny cloth angels and wooden clothespin soldiers decorating the

basket. For those " special gifts " I would get out my Scroll Saw and carving

knives and make intricate puzzles, little statuary, and the occasional small

decorative mirror or stained glass decoration.

I found a lot of comfort creating those pieces, even more so than actually

watching them get unwrapped. I don't know, maybe it's just the fact that I was

busy again or something. Heck I even went so far as to create actual

furniture once upon a time! Leather covered chairs, end table and coffee table

sets,

an entire dining room set, and even a full decorative set of custom cabinets!

Took me almost a whole year to finish that one, but my Sister-in-law was very

surprised! I never got the same satisfaction or sense of peace from the

larger pieces, but they were needed, so I did them.

Any more though, I do a lot of clay work, since I can do that without moving

so much. The tools are smaller, and while I still do some carving, I don't

have to fight with any rascally knots or grain variations. I've found I can

afford to be a bit more creative, but I do have to be more careful too, wood

never crumbled under too much pressure!

Anyway, I guess I've rambled on enough. Heck, I was only supposed to be

on-line for a few minutes anyway! Have fun creating, and don't be afraid to try

odd ideas! Some of my best creations came from whimsical flights of fancy.

Peace,

D

I do counted cross stitch. I find it very relaxing and have made

bookmarks, christmas stockings and ornaments, pillows, etc....My

favorite gifts are the ones my daughter makes in art class or the

pictures my best friend's daughter draws for me.

Hiya Butterflie,

I also do those kinds of crafty things. I have a counted cross stitch book mark

just screaming at me to finish it, unfortunately lack of motivation and failing

eye sight prevent me. (Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) <g>. Isn't

kids art wonderful????? I've kept many pieces and sometimes bring it out and

show them now. They can't believe they created the things they did. I love it.

I love making stuff. I have at least 5 grocery bags stuffed with

stuff to make, plus other boxes, etc holding stuff. Maybe with no

job I'll finally have time to work on them. It took me three years

to finish a baby quilt. Hubby has " threatened " to throw away my

craft catalogues! Nadine
