Dear Members,

Many of you might know me as I have been a steady contributer to several of the

groups on this cross posting. For those who don't, here is a quick bio.

Schramm is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), with a Master’s

degree in Special Education. He is the lead behavior analyst for Knospe-ABA,

Europe’s largest ABA/VB autism intervention institute. Knospe-ABA uses the

principles and procedures of behavior analysis espoused by the biggest names in

ABA/VB to guide the education of over 150 children worldwide.

I am writing this current post to announce the release of my Verbal Behavior

Teaching Manual, " Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism. " ETR "

is a 300 page teaching manual written specifically for parents, teachers, and

therapists working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The goal of the

book is to explain the principles of ABA and the teaching procedures of Verbal

Behavior in a way that is easy to understand and practically apply. It

demonstrates the important aspects of ABA and also discusses in great detail the

differences between Verbal Behavior and traditional ABA.

Chapters of the book include but are not limited to:

Understanding the Purpose of Behavior, Earning Instructional Control, Teaching

the Control Child, Discrete Trial Teaching, Skinner's Classification of

Language, Undestanding the Secret to Motivated Learning, Errorless Learning with

Most to Least Prompting, Teaching Functional Speech, Changing your Child's View

on Toilet Training, Knowing What to Teach, ABA/VB and the Public School System,

The Ethics of ABA, ABA/VB and RDI, and Becoming your Child's Expert and Teaching

Toward Recovery.

Although the book has only recently been completed, here are some quotes from

individuals who have read and reviewed " ETR " including parents, therapist and

important ABA/VB practitioners.

" Schramm has written a book that is a must read for parents,

therapists, and teachers of children with autism. This book is clear, heartfelt,

informative, and provides behavioral terminology in a way that is applicable and

easy to understand. He has beautifully explained Applied Behavior Analysis as an

effective, scientifically validated treatment for autism. ’s book offers

realistic hope in a world where it is needed most. We personally recommend this

book to every parent or educator of a child in need. "

(Cherish Twigg , MS , BCBA and Holly Kibbe, MS, BCABA, Establishing

Operations, inc.)

" A first class piece of work and a necessary read for anyone who is involved

with a child with Autism, personally or professionally. It is the first parent

and educator friendly book specifically written for parents on the VB approach.

This book has been well worth waiting for. Outstanding! A valuable,

one-of-a-kind resource. "

( Roussel, M.Ed.)

" ’s Chapter about “Control Children†just blew my mind. I never

considered that the reason some behavior interventions fail is that the child is

simply trying to control our responses in order to maintain predictability and

sameness in his environment. I have never heard any behavior analyst but

really make headway on how to reliably affect the behavior choices of “Control

Children. " , you are my hero when it comes to solving problem behavior. "

(Dr. t Burk, mother, autism educator and advocate)

Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism, should become the first

book recommended to and read by all parents of newly diagnosed children with

autism. It is written primarily for parents and therapists who lack any formal

behavioral training; however, autism teachers and Board Certified Behavioral

Analysts will also be well served by reading it. I have personally reviewed and

read numerous books on autism, and as a parent-physician of a child with autism,

I truly wish this seminal book had been available when I began the long journey

toward recovering my son.

(Barbara R. Bucknam, MD)

Additionally, " ETR " has just been reviewed in the Journal of Speech-Language

Pathology and Applied Behavior Analysis. Here is the citation for that review

which can be found at the following link http://www.behavior -analyst-

online.org/

Balazs, T. (2006). Book Review-Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on

Autism (Schramm, 2006). Journal of Speech and Language Pathology and Applied

Behavior Analysis Volume 1,(2), 244

" ETR " is not cheap by typical book standards but priced appropriately as an ASD

teaching manual. Additionally, it offers more information and examples about

how to use the principles and procedures of VB than could ever be shared in a

Verbal Behavior workshop.

Please forgive my self promotion. This book truly has been a vision quest for

me, spanning almost the entire last 3 years and I am very proud of the result.

If you decide to give " ETR " a look, please contact me and share your thoughts.

Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism is available at the

following link. Also at this link, you can read full reviews as well as see the

cover of the book and even read the full introduction. Feel free to pass this

email on to others you feel might benefit from a more complete understanding of

ABA/VB, the most modern approach to educating children with Autism Spectrum

Disorders.
