huge relief

This has nothing to do with food or weight, but I need to share it.

Some of you here know of the ongoing battle and daily therapy sessions

for my little one with a hodge-podge of diagnoses and " suspected this "

and " provisional that " .

Well, an evaluation report that I have anxiously awaiting for about

seven weeks, was faxed over to me this morning. It is the evaluation

report for the 3 to 5 agency that will take over my little one's care

when she turns 3 in March. A 16-page report that analyzes every last

detail, stuff I know to be true, and stuff I never thought of ....

The result on the last page is that she meets disability eligibility

requirements and therefore is eligible for special instruction, they

recommend an IEP meeting focused on her challenge areas, and they also

recommend a structured educational setting with a low child-to-teacher

ratio and small group activities to help her interact, help her

sensory problems, and help her communication difficulties.

In other words -- everything I wanted for my child!!!!

I am so happy, relieved, feeling like a huge weight the size of a

mountain has been lifted off my shoulders. This report is what i

needed to call a few area special ed preschools to schedule tours, to

start adjusting my child to the transition and be informed on

placement, structure, how they handle behavioral problems, what

methods they use to communicate with mostly non-verbal children, how

they handle sensory-overload or sensory-seeking ... how will they care

for my child and help her to learn in the way that is best for her.

And if the autism diagnosis is confirmed - how will they adjust or

adapt to her needs to help her to grow and learn.

Today has been a crowded day, and will still be -- I've got a lot of

phone calls to make and scheduling to do, and the MA needs renewing

soon (and DPW is notoriously slow), but I feel like I'm on a " high " of

relief and gratitude that this finally came through.

I still haven't received the dev ped's report with the AS diagnosis in

writing, but that will come soon, and if there are problems with that,

then I'll deal with it.

But for now -- my child qualifies -- next step is the IEP meeting.

gratefully relieved,

Kim

I am new here, hadn't even introduced myself yet, but I want to say

how happy I am for you if that is the right word. I teach a special

needs program for behaviorally challenged children who need a small

group setting and good for you on being such an advocate for your

child. That report you have is a powerful tool and you sound like

you are doing such a good job being proactive for your child.

Just had to commend you.
