Welcome khalid. The medicine your wife is on is one of the

oldest treatments for RA. MTX and plaquenil are very good drugs for RA.

Does she take the MTX in pills or does she take injections? I understand

why she doesn't trust her doctor if she is taking these medications and

still having pain. The meds help reduce the pain, but it doesn't all go

away. She should tell her doctor that she is having a lot of pain and

maybe they will change her medicine or give her a pain pill. You are a good

husband. Please let us know how she is doing, and tell her that she is on

good medicine for Ra. She MUST tell her doctor how she is feeling so he can

change her medicine to make her feel better.

Bambi,

Sounds like that office can use a little " Office Ethics " education. I'm

sorry you were the recipient of bad taste. I hope you find another doctor

that is better for you. It is not to much to ask for, and you are paying

for good medical care and should get it. I hope your pity party is over and

your search for an understanding doctor is sucessful.

Verna,

You may be able to walk around Disney, but the price you will pay takes away

the fun. Your doctor is a wise man. I'm glad you found one that knows what

FM is and how to treat it.

My old rheumy didn't diagnose my FM and for 16 years I suffered before

finding out that I had it. Now that I am being treated for it, I feel so

much better. I encourage anyone that isn't happy with their doctor to get

another opinion.

Thanks for " I'll Be There, " Bambi. I feel the same way about everyone here.

Congratulations about your son's award.

First, I know you are new to the group. We have some unwritten rules though.

Probably one of the most important ones is that no member is allowed to have

a pity party alone. That is no good for you!!!! And we won't say " I told you

so! " about unfortunate events.

Your message makes me very upset. Why oh why are certain people in these

professions???? The nurse in question and that doctor in a hurry should be

ashamed of themselves. That is disgraceful behavior!

Seeking out a more compassionate doctor and supportive staff is what you

must do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. They are in the wrong

for having treated you that way. I know it sounds cliché, but that is

certainly adding insult to injury. If these people can't help us with their

science, they must do their best to help us in the ways that demonstrate

true care - with understanding, patience, and fellowship.

If I were you, I would report that nurse to your doctor, even if you leave.

I would also tell him about the unsatisfactory experience you had with his

substitute. After all, he should know about these deficiencies and correct

them. His reputation is tied to the actions of everyone in his office. At

the very least, you will have had your say. I have done this before and it

was very well received by the physician.

The boyfriend issue is one I shouldn't comment on since I am in the process

of divorcing my husband of sixteen years. Can't be too objective about men

these days!!!!!

Glad the weather is nice and warm for you. Upper 90s is much too hot for me,

but early in the season it's tolerable.

I walk several times a week. I find it to be very therapeutic also.

Come and cry on our shoulders any time at all, Bambi.

Verna,

You and Bambi have gotten my blood pressure going tonight!!! I'm so sorry

about the jerk doctors. All you need is a man?? Oh my God, what stone-age

advice that is!

I'm so happy you found a much kinder, wiser physician!

Verna,

Please listen to your Dr about riding while at Disneyland. I just

recently took my 2 kids there and the waiting and walking was just

about enough to do me in. I didn't think it would be that bad, I was

totally mistaken. A few times I would leave my kids there and go

back to the motel to lie down or go get in the hot tub. My kids are

17 and 14. SO felt ok leaving them and they stayed together. My

hips had never hurt so bad. So use the chair. They rent them right

when you go through the gate. Have a great time there. Thanks for

the support.

Thanks ,

Your letter made me feel better. At times I want it to all go

away!! I feel so much better today. Actually started feeling better

Friday afternoon. It is going to be another hot one today. Maybe

take a walk in the redwoods? It is cooler under them. I am so

thankful for this group. They understand when no one else does. I

do think I will tell my doctor about the nurse and his replacement.

My boyfreind thinks I should give him another chance. He didn't do

anything wrong! I do have an apt in June and have written everything

that happened down so I don't forget. Maybe see what he does? I

don't know yet. Still need to get my reg doc to give me a refferal

to see another RA doc. The man issue well I know how that is!! I

guess we need to give them a break once in awhile or break them?

lol. Hope you have a good day!

Thanks a,

Yes that office does need some office ethics!! I always thought

doctor offices were susposed to be confidental places? I know the

office I work in is a confidental place. Heads would roll if we were

to do anything like that!! Yes, the pity party is over. Thanks to

all of you listening to me grip. I do plan to look for another

doctor. Just hate the thought of driving 3 hours one way to see

one? Been thinking maybe go to them to statr and then to my reg

doctor for her to do my follow up stuff. She said she could do

that? Thanks again!!

Verna,

Not sure if they had the electric chairs or not the regular ones

were about 25 a day? I think? You put a depsoit down and get that

back when you return the chair. You get to use it the whole day you

are there. So nice. You could also check out Disneylands web site I

am sure they have the prices there as well. Have fun!!

Verna, last year the price was about $30.00. They get rented fast, so you

have to be an early bird to get one! The only way for people like us to do

Disney is with a wheelchair - energy needs to be spent on having fun, not

walking around!

Verna,

I just asked my husband - he seems to remember that the electric scooters

required $50. When you are done, you get $20 back. I couldn't do the

electric scooter because it does require a lot of hand work - and my wrists

are where RA has affected me badly.

The regular wheelchairs were $6 and you got one Disney dollar back when you

are done with it.

Hope this helps!

Happy to hear that you are feeling better, Bambi. I wish I of your aches and

cares would go away, too.

I've been to the redwoods. It is deliciously cool there. I cannot believe

how huge and beautiful those trees are. Come to think of it, I could live in

one of them. Hope you get to go and stroll there.

Giving your doctor another chance is up to you, but, unlike your boyfriend,

I hold him partially responsible for what happened to you. That nurse and

other doctor are part of his team. He really should have a better idea of

how they treat his patients.

Hope you are feeling good today.

contact washington state migrant council at 1-800-821-4113 and ask to speak

to their health coordinator, they have a great diaper changing, which

includes handwashing, poster. They might have other things as well. A trip

there might (Sunnyside) might be worth your time, even if your play is

quickly approaching.

By the way I have changed jobs I was basically chased out of my work by an

AWFUL new manager who is inept and well just plain dumb who is destroying

the program. I tried fighting and drawing attention to the problem to no

avail so I had to take flight to save my health and well-being.

But keep me in the loop for mi alma y corazón siempre estoy con mi gente.

Sandy,

Feel free to read whatever interests you. Since we have such a large

membership, sometimes it is hard to keep up. Some members don't have the

time or energy to respond to messages or read as much as they would like to.

If you are interested in just learning about your disease, the website I

made for the group has links to all the top arthritis research

and treatments options. This list is more for support and where I post news

articles pertaining to all autoimmune diseases. Many times we get off

track, but we try to post OT in the subject line so that you can delete

anything not pertaining to autoimmune diseases.

I know how you feel about passing off the extra responsibilities, but just

remember it was not your choice to get sick. I too have a great helpful

husband, and feel very lucky. Many people have no one and struggle hard to

do simple things. Being newly diagnosed, you will learn in time other ways

to do things. This list is very helpful with tips for coping.

After 25 years with this disease, I try to look at what I CAN still do and

not dwell on what I can't. But then I've had many years to adapt :)

Sandy,

I forgot to mention, if the mail is to much for you there is an option to

get the messages in digest format which puts 20 emails in one message. You

can also go on web only, and read messages at the website instead of having

them delivered to you. The link for changing your messages types are at the

bottom of each email for easy reference.

Change subscription options:

Hope this helps.

beth,

I am currently working in North Carolina and the one thing I can suggest

is contacting Hispanics/Latinos in your area and let them know about what

you are doing. Also, flyers with color are very effect and

inexpensive for advertising with the Community. If you would like

more ideas, please write back.

Ibarra

I am currently working with seasonal

farmworkers in Western Kentucky. I assist them in obtaining support

services, job training and/or job placement. The objective is for

the farmworker to be self-sufficient year round and be a vital and

integrated member of his/her community. I am aware that there is a

growing population of migrant workers in the area. I am asking your

advice on how I can reach this population. I have begun the process

by introducing myself to individuals who often have contact within the

migrant community. But, it has been a extermely slow process; I

feel that those who are in need and who I could possibly assist are not

learning about the programs I respersent. Knowing about the

programs may make the difference between moving on or settling down to

establish strong roots within a community. Any suggestions?

Oh Amy, have I been there! It was such a struggle to GET the band, and

then when we got it and had to wear it, I didn't want it anymore!

This whole process has been a real emotional rollercoaster. I was so

sad that I wouldn't get to see her whole head, and I missed kissing and

nuzzling her. But it DOES get better. We've had lots of snuggle time

during the hour it's off. And, actually, I've gotten so used to it she

looks a bit funny with it off! Cranial Tech tells me she only has about

a week left in this band, and we won't be getting a second. Believe me,

the time will pass SO quickly - got hers in mid-October, and these

three months have just flown by. Now, believe it or not, I wish she had

some more time in it before she outgrows it so we could maybe get some

more improvement (they've told us she won't need a second band). So,

you will get used to it, and YES, it will bother you more than Abigail.

But before you know it, it'll all be over! Hang in there, and lean on

this group for emotional support!

Lori,

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and even though the mention of plagio

is brief I like that it mentions that it can lead to FUNCTIONAL abnormalities

not just cosmetic issues!! I printed the article and it will be one more
