Guest guest
Hi everyone I am posting this on a couple of different forums. I am hoping you can all help. I have a couple of questions - 1. Is it best to give melatonin about 1.5 hrs before the child should go to bed? The answer to this question mint also be linked to the dosage question (question 5). 2. Is it okay to give a zinc/magnesium/B6 supplement at the same time as melatonin? 3. My son was continent at night, but since having melatonin (we are on day 2) he has been wetting the bed at night. Last night he wet the bed twice. Has this happened to anyone else? 4. I am very impressed with melatonin and how it has assisted with my sons chronic sleep issues. I know it is only day 2, and it could be a coincidence, but he has also been in a fantastic mood! Less arguing. Less irritability. General happiness. When he is happy, the whole family is happy. I know that sleep is important for overall health and wellbeing, but just wondering if anyone else has noticed mood improvements in their child following the introduction of melatonin. 5. What dosage have others used for a 3 year old? We started on 1mg and last night tried 2mg. Last night it took 1.5 hrs before he went to sleep. Should we increase the dose? I am looking forward to the responses Cheers
Guest guest
Hi ,From our experience I would recommend you don't give b vits too late as that can disrupt sleep. Also we found that too much melatonin will actually shorten the sleep cycle. We give Ltheanine and 5HTP 1/2 an hour to an an hour before bed as our son has had chronic sleep issues and low seratonin. Now he sleeps all night, no problem and we only give 2mg melatonin (our son is nearly 6 yrs old). The only thing I can say re the bed wetting is normal things like not giving too much liquid before bed and getting them to go to the toilet which I'm sure you've probably already thought of.That's just us but hope it helps. xTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Sunday, August 28, 2011 3:05 AMSubject: Melatonin questions Hi everyone I am posting this on a couple of different forums.
