Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 LOS ANGELES - Otis Chandler, who as publisher of the Los Angeles Times during the 1960s and '70s turned a narrow, conservative publication into one of the nation's most distinguished and influential newspapers, died Monday at 78. Chandler, who had been suffering from a degenerative brain disorder known as Lewy body disease, died at his home in Ojai, said Tom , who succeeded him as publisher and retired as chairman and chief executive of CNN News Group. * * * * * * * * * * * * I just heard on the radio that Otis Chandler, former publisher of the LA Times (?), just passed away from LBD at age 78, I believe. Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 I had a friend call me and tell me the same thing... she heard it on the local NBC channel 4 news, LA (CA) and they mentioned it was due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia. Hugs to all, Debbie > > I just heard on the radio that Otis Chandler, former publisher of the > LA Times (?), just passed away from LBD at age 78, I believe. > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 My husband heard the news up here in Ont. too, that he had died, had suffered from LBD. in Oakville > > I just heard on the radio that Otis Chandler, former publisher of the > LA Times (?), just passed away from LBD at age 78, I believe. > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Great window of opportunity Courage. I second that. * * * * * * * I think that after an appropriate amount of time has passed someone from the LBDA should contact his family to let them know about us. They, no doubt will get a lot of correspondence and questions about LBD and this is where we can come in....just thinking out loud. Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I totally agree with your suggestion -even if we send a packet to them and develope some kind of memorial pin or card with their loved ones name on it and saying they will be remembered in our group. I also am soooooooo glad a CD has been developed I always felt that was the easiest way to explain LBD to groups and spread the word quickly. --- In LBDcaregivers , gaat wrote: > > I think that after an appropriate amount of time has passed someone from > the LBDA should contact his family to let them know about us. Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I have just sent an email to CBC radio here in Canada suggesting they look into LBD as a possible interest story, reminding them that Otis Chandler had it. Will see where it may or may not lead. Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Hi Donna, maybe we can send the information on to the magazine he worked on. They are doing a big spread on him and I'm sure that readers will contact the paper for information about LBD - if we're lucky, they may even do a bit about us and LBD???? Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I also sent an email to Shaw of LA Times and an editor at Boston Globe expressing the interest of their writing a public interest story about LBD. Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 : I think this would make a great Fifth Estate program. The " visual " aspect makes for a better understanding. Plus the show could be taped and re-watch or distributed. I have tried to come up with a convicing e-mail to Fifth Estate but I am not feeling particularly eloquent today. What did you say in your e-mail to CBC Radio? Maybe I could " crib " from you. stimtimminss wrote: I have just sent an email to CBC radio here in Canada suggesting they look into LBD as a possible interest story, reminding them that Otis Chandler had it.
