Hello,

the symptoms you describe scare me also.

I was on Lipitor for 6 months and quit...still loose my train of thought in

the middle of a sentence.......

(worse than prior)

I met a lady at rehab whose husband is on lipitor and he also is on meds for

beginning Alzheimer's. This struck a cord with me, but they are older and

she is not aware of stuff like this. Sometimes i just hate to meddle.:-(

My mom died from drugs...side effects and more pills for those side

effects...so I am aware....but lots of trusting people are not.

Good luck to you.

- about your friend whose husband is considered to have Alzheimers...my cognitive problems were so bad I was also given medication for Alzheimers. After stopping Lipitor 20 my brain returned to normal within a week. Please, please find out if he is taking a statin. Please, please meddle. I had no idea and the neurologist, internist, and cardiologist didn't make the connection either. You just might save his life.

  • 2 months later...

what happened to the long post I thought I was sending this am about

the articles in the wall street journal today showing zocor in high

doses(aggressive group) given to patients who had been hospitalized

with unstable heart pain (angina) showed no heart health benefits

after 1 month and no benefit after 2 yrs. (the " moderate " group

received a placebo (dummy pill) for the first 4 months and then

zocor for 20 months. In the agggressive group the study showed 9

patients developed myopathies and 3 patients developed

rhabdomyolysis vs one patient with myopathy in the " moderate "

group. There was discussion re: possibility that the anti-

inflammatory properties of statins--esp. Lipitor may have more to do

with their benefiting heart patints than their LDL lowering effect.

The Aggressive group's LDL measured down to 62 after 1 month of

therapy while the moderate group's LDL levels were TWICE as high--

yet there were NO benefits measureable between the 2 groups.

interesting articles..olsen
