Guest guest
Olsen, good questions. Problem is, hubby and i disagree over the answers. He thinks he was not on them long....maybe 2 years......but without looking at his medical records, I will try to tell you what I know to be true. I think he was probably on Lipitor the longest..........for a couple years at least.....when he was getting so weird......I finally told him he was NOT RIGHT, and stopping the drug. Funny thing is, he could not or did not see his own reactions to this drug. It took him stumbling one day, and falling clear out of our horse trailer..running a ways before sprawling on the cement......like an idiot......that he finally admitted maybe he should go back to the doc. By this time he was also having severe muscle deterioration and loss.....especially in the shoulder area. She then put him on Tricor ....one I do not read much about. He was on that probably at least 8-12 months.......and by this time the muscle and facial expression thing was becoming habit.......She took him off that and tried pravachol..... same thing, then lastly she gave him a prescription for Crestor, saying it was new and believed to be MUCH safer than the other ones..... Well.......he never did use that prescription. By now I was reading alot online and searching alot like Ed did. I will say......during this time.......which I will say altogether must have been about 4 years.........he also tried red rice yeast.......it produced the same exact symptoms. He (we)then read Vita-nutrient solutions by Dr Adkins, and we learned about inosital Hexacanicotinate.....(sp)......so he took that for a year or so.....had absolutely no adverse effects, and it did lower his cholesterol. Somewhere in there tho, he had to go in for a colonoscopy......(another big story) and was off all meds........to prepare......and he just never went back on any after. I think because he is not a pill taker by choice and wanted a break:-) The colonoscopy led to other things.......brought on by the colonoscopy IMO, and anyway......some months later he had his HA and emergency bypass. So, in short I cannot answer your questions precisely:-( I will say tho, he seemed back to pretty much normal after several months. It is such a slow process that suddenly one day I just thought, wow, he is not doing that shuffling or facial expression thing anymore...yeah! He cringed while taking lopressor after his CABG and thankfully the doc took him off.....things seem fine now........still with the high cholesterol tho. Thankfully the cardio " allowed " him to NOT try statins again......this time puttin him on niaspan. My husband did get the flushes and the itchies from that, so he downed the dose and is supplementing with the old standby, inositol hexacanicotinate.......His cholesterol had dropped by about 100 points on the niaspan, so am hopeful things are still ok. We of course take CoQ10 and a bunch of other things. I am now aware also about probiotics and prebiotics and am searching for a good one of that to take. This entire thing has made us all so much more aware. We do not take food for granted anymore either........staying away from partially hydrogenated oils, and white foods (sugar, potatoes, rice, flour)......and NO fast food ever. I sincerely hope your hubby and your nephew recover as well as my husband did....... Trouble is, I have gotten so aware now....I also am aware how much garbage is in our foods......and I always took that for granted. It is important to eat good food for our bodies to be well.....as much as taking the right supplements and investigating our medicines. Guest guest
Thanks, jillie. i have found what is purported to be a good soure for probiotics: Probiotic advantage, available from www.drdavidwilliams.com. phone 1-. I had my mother take it for her second round of antibiotics--her first round (for pneumonia) left her with an overgrowth of bacteria called C. diffecils resulting in protracted diarrhea. I cannot say definitively if it was responsible for her not getting C. diff the second time, though she believes it is and has continued to take it. and thank you for taking the time to respond t my queries. olsen > Olsen, good questions. > Problem is, hubby and i disagree over the answers. > He thinks he was not on them long....maybe 2 years......but without looking > at his medical records, I will try to tell you what I know to be true. > > I think he was probably on Lipitor the longest..........for a couple years > at least.....when he was getting so weird......I finally told him he was NOT > RIGHT, and stopping the drug.
