Guest guest
Have you considered adding coenzyme Q10 to your supplement regimen? Please read about statins depleting the body of coq10.there are many sources which deal with this problem..olsen > > Hello, > My name is steve...I am 35 and had a heart attack 8 weeks ago 99% > block in the LCA, 90% block in RCA, both opened to 100%, had > medicated stents put in I am 6'-4 " 190lbs. Guest guest
Hi Steve, Low HDL is an independant risk factor for heart disease so the fact that your LDL and ratio are good may not be as protective as you'd like. I got low HDL when I went on a very low fat diet. It went up 5-7 points when I added a little monounsaturated fat [olive oil] without any change in my LDL. It jumped up 10-15 points when I took 1-1 1/2 grams of niacin. Niacin is famous for raising HDL. I used Niaspan [the prescription form] because I got less flushing with it. I also tried a form of niacin called inositol hexaniacinate, which is heavily promoted by the vitamin companies, but it didn't do anything. Lopid also raises HDL in some people and might be a good alternative if you can't tolerate the niacin flush. But niacin does more good things for your lipids than Lopid, several things in fact. It's actually one of the best things around for cardiovascular health. Congrats on the LDL and triglyceride lowering.
Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions larry. I am currently taking the 150 b-complex and adding brewers yeast to my diet, but perhaps need to look at adding additional niacin. my c- reactive protein is in normal range but my homocystine was very high (12.7). it has now lowered to 6.1. I went out and got some additional coEnzyme Q10 last nite(after reading all the positive information it seems like a good move). My only reservation with adding additional niacin is interaction with the other meds. I tried taking red rice yeast extract and felt very poor.so I stopped after 3 weeks. perhaps a conflict with the zocor I was taking at the time? My goal is to get off the lipid meds all together due to the obvious risk. I have made some pretty drastic life style changes. My body has changed alot...I dont know what changes to attribute to what. The first four weeks my body was withdrawling from nicotine, caffine, sugars, poor nutrition.
