Guest guest
Hi Mike's Mom, wow I have not heard of such a dramatic response so quickly to inositol. Just curious, did you start right out at a treatment dose--several grams I think I remember? Has your son had any side effects? I have not tried inositol for my child--she takes Zoloft with good effect--but I have wondered if I should due to the trich-type symptoms she has and severe nail, which if anything the Zoloft seems to worsen. In any case I am glad that you and your son are getting a break from the previous levels of OCD. Thanks for posting your success and experience with this. Guest guest
Hi Kathy R., We are feeling really good about the inositol, which is why I posted. He hasn't had any side effects that we are aware of. We ramped him up very quickly, starting with 4 grams on day 1, 5 grams on Day 2, 8 G on Day3, 9G on Day 4 ... 12 grams by Day 7. We have stayed at that level to monitor how he is doing. A friend who is a pediatrician said that it wouldn't hurt him to increase the dosage each day. He tells me that he can logically tell himself that his worries aren't real now. Before, he would become extremely anxious, his skin would appear blotchy and it would take some lengthy talking to calm him down. I've not seen any of the blotchy skin in the last five days. He too has noticed that. Another improvement we've noticed is an incredible lessening of his dry skin. His hands were so dry, even when he didn't overwash. Now, his hands appear almost normal. That is an amazing change for him. He used to bite his nails, but somehow he " beat " that one. Will keep you all posted! I'm curious in his (and everyone's) success stories--what's worked--my daughter is very distressed with this habit and bites to the degree that her fingertips are raw, sore and bleeding. Guest guest
Both my boys chewed their nails. My oldest without OCD used the stuff that you brush on your nails to stop. My younger OCD son used bandaids to stop chewing. He would put them on in the morning before he started school (we homeschool). As they came off during the day, he left them off, but put them on again after his shower. I also remember offering some bribes along the way. I think that it was the bandaids that did the trick. He also plays piano, so he would take them off to practice and then put more back on. He hated the bandaids, but it really helped him.
