Guest guest
I remember that Sandy and Tim made SCD 24-hour goat's yogurt using CP1 as the culture. This would be a very cheap way of keeping up the probios. I have started doing this myself - first batch should be ready this evening. I plan to try doing it with sheep's milk, too - hard to find the milk but it's the least likely to casue allergic problems and it's nicer than goat's milk, too. I should also be interested to hear of cheap and acceptable supplements. I can't remember if there is a file on doing biomed on a budget - but it would be a good idea to gather material for one, I think. Guest guest
What? £75 for Kirkmans enzymes!! Houston Enzymes are far cheaper, excellent and you can buy them on Mandi Mart. They got us through some bad gut episodes. Gillian Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. They have ceased to consider me 'poor enough'? Guest guest
Hello, many whole food & organic shops sell NOW and SOLGAR brands which are not expensive as does mandimart. iherb.com is quite good from the states, we use my protein for amino acids and also another site called www.bulksupplementsdirect.co.uk these last for ages and my son has been taking them for a year now with no problems, Isobel > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. We ran out of funding for six months recently, so just followed the GAPS diet and used lots of fermented foods like kombucha, yoghurt and saurcraut from the Nourishing Traditions book. The only supplements we used were HCl and Pepsin, (this was enough to aid digestion) and fermented cod liver oil and EPA. We just had 1 tub of Tri Enza for diet infringements on special occasions. We did lots of juicing for vits and mins. This worked for us until we could get funding again. Good luck.
Guest guest
We don't have anything like Cauldwell or any funding in Aus, it all comes from our own pockets, we have found i.herb to be the cheapest especially as they don't charge the earth shipping wise unfortunately they don't sell houston enzymes but Mandimart does for those in the UK and Europe. Guest guest
Regarding fish oil - we use higher nature. It has correct ratio of EPA/DHA and is recommended in Holfords kids book. It is much cheaper than a lot of them and certainly claims to be pure.Alison R thank you all who replied - great ideas for supps and where to find them. cant thank you enough. found some vitamin C in Holland and B today, couldnt believe it!! anyway, again, thanks for helping out!!! > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. Guest guest
Another thing to consider (if you havent already) is wheatgrass powder, it is full of nutrients and has an alkalising effect on the body and a pot of wheatgrass powder will last along time, i am giving my son, 1/4 of a teasoon every morning in a smoothie (my son is 6yrs old) and he drinks it no problems, if you do have trouble getting your child to drink it then i would start with a sprinkle and gradually increase over a period of time. http://www.sprout.net.au/wht_benefits.html http://www.justnutrition.co.uk/amazing_grass_wheatgrass.html x To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: bbrowne123@...Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 17:23:03 +0000Subject: Re: Caudwell funding ceased - end of biomed for us thank you all who replied - great ideas for supps and where to find them. cant thank you enough. found some vitamin C in Holland and B today, couldnt believe it!!anyway, again, thanks for helping out!!!> > >> > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. Guest guest
It is interesting to note that Caudwell are still keen to support TST but seem less keen on Biomedical- I think this may be due to speed of improvements with TST and its cost compared with biomed and its results. Whilst my thinking may not totally resonate with all on the group, until oxygenation levels are increased, and can be maintained, the long term benefits of any other therapies may be significantly less effective.. and ratio of gains per pound spent may not be as great. Guest guest
Well if they do think that then they are completely wrong Tracey. As you know I have 2 boys on the spectrum who have made huge gains with no involvement of TST or any breathing interventions, perhaps though because of so many being advised on this group of the cure all benefits of TST then Caudwell and others may have the impression that this is more useful. People have been making massive improvement on biomed with their autistic children for years, we can read all about them on other groups particularly AM. Bear in mind though that those who see NO improvement with either biomed or TST are unlikely to be posting it on this group or others like it. I have to say I am shocked to see a post like this on a group called "Autism-Biomedical-Europe" Why does this intervention not have it's own list? If everyone is as evangelical as yourself Tracey I would have thought it would already exist. I am particularly concerned as we are due for re-funding and my "autistic" children depend on biomed, they do not nor have they ever had breathing issues,.and you should not be setting this up as some kind of competing intervention imho as in doing so you are jeopardinsing other childrens recovery. Guest guest
Dear VickyI am not saying that Biomed is not totally useful, neither am I saying that gains are not made doing it. Remember much of the early work we did with Tash was homeopathics/ diet and omega 3 and fish oils plus a few supps, however this resolved some of the issues however it DID NOT produce any of the controls of the seizures neither did it address the inflexible thinking, the low energy, the inability to follow news stories neither did it address her difficulties in finding the words to respond to simply questions nor her very destructive black and white thinking.. These gains have come about with the additional of TST- nothing else except food combining has changed.I guess I have been able to see the gains with biomed ish done over 15 yrs and the significant gains with only 2 years of TST. There is a place for both, I only wish I had done TST earlier to get these gains at a time which would have made her seizures lessen and her mental capacity expand in order for schooling and functioning to have been a little easier for her. I think too that it is true to say that no one person on this group is doing Biomed as a singe intervention, each of us is adding other therapies, teaching programmes or things such as Ian Jordan and HBOT and this all sits very comfortable on this ABE group. Best WishesTracey Well if they do think that then they are completely wrong Tracey. Guest guest
Tracey you actually were saying that TST showed better results, was more cost effective and now appears to be the prefferred intervention to fund by Caudwell! You also say that the long term benefits of any other therapies may be less without TST! The other therapies you mention ie Ian Jordan are not recommended for any and every problem that people may bring to this board. It doesn't necessarily sit as well as you may think on this board, you are making that assumption on the basis of everyone who has had success, as I said people tend not to post when they don't see the good results of any intervention. I am not aware of your own children having an autism diagnosis although you allude to possible autistic like symptoms but I can assure you that my sons profound autism, non verbal, SIB, weight and height loss had absolutley nothing to do with breathing, in fact I can say categorically that the only thing he could manage at one point in his life was breathing, and I am not being glib when I say that. The reason I am entering into this discussion with you is because you have suggested that TST may be the reason our children are being turned down for biomed funding and I am outraged if that is the case, there will then not be enough room for everything and eventually this board will actually be a TST board and/or anything else Scotson may recommend. Vicky Re: Caudwell funding ceased - end of biomed for us thank you all who replied - great ideas for supps and where to find them. cant thank you enough. found some vitamin C in Holland and B today, couldnt believe it!! anyway, again, thanks for helping out!!! > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. Guest guest
Tracey, I should like to know, please, whether you have - or anyone else you know or have heard about has - been making representations to, or has been lobbying, Caudwell or anyone connected to Caudwell which might in any way lead a to a reduction in funding for biomed for autistic children? Have you heard anything, directly or indirectly, which might be evidence to show that Caudwell are no longer as supportive of biomed than they were? Thank you, Margaret > > > > > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no > > longer. They have ceased to consider me 'poor enough'? Guest guest
Thanks for asking Margaret, I would like to hear the answer to those questions too. Guest guest
I cannot say how insulting and misinformed I find this post. I have been a part of the biomedical community for 6.5 years now, know the stories of hundreds of children, have read the science as much as I can, and cannot emphasize enough that simply sorting out what may or may not be poor oxygenation levels will not undo the toxic, viral, and bacterial damage done to my son and thousands like him. I say this as someone who has done 240 hbot dives with her son as well. I also would find it difficult to believe that any of us have a clear insight into what Caudwell may or may not be choosing to fund in general and their reasoning behind their choices. Guest guest
Here here, and well said. Others join in please. If that is the case Tracey, i have and TST to 'blame' for the fact my son is not going to receive biomedical funding any longer. Thanks a bunch. What has ever done for my son or me? Its all about the money. > > > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no longer. They have ceased to consider me 'poor enough'? Guest guest
It's cheaper here. This is what we get http://www.iherb.com/Organic-by-Nature-Pure-Planet-Green-Kamut-Wheat-Grass-Juice\ -240-Veggie-Caps/4993?at=0 Powder would be even cheaper. Guest guest
hello margaret, i do not know of any such thing of caudwell ceasing biomed funding I think they are just helping the lowest income families, I just received funding from them 2 weeks ago,Isobel > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no > > > longer. Guest guest
My understanding of caudwell's is that once you have funding there is no guarentee of getting it the next time you apply even if your circumstances have not changed. I know that through the recession their funds were getting low as everyone has had to tighten there belts and i do think alot more people have heard about Caudwell's so maybe they are giving funding to newbies. x To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: mysuperteach@...Date: Sun, 17 Jul 2011 21:33:53 +0000Subject: Re: Caudwell funding ceased - end of biomed for us I cannot say how insulting and misinformed I find this post. Guest guest
Though that may be so, the issue brought up by others is the comment(s) from Tracey that TST might be/may be 'better' than biomedical interventions in general. There has been a distinct slant toward the presumed efficacy (unproven) of TST on this list and it's been that way for some time. Where is the proof, where are the outcome studies? I have just googled the Advance Centre and most of what I see on the web is coming from the centre itself. If its so great, where is the proof? Why is Tracey using this board as a sounding board for TST when there are SOOO many other treatments for autism. On what research is TST based? And by the way, its a culmination of a number of therapies, most of which have not been proven to be effective. Ask the Cochrane Review to look at TST and let them decide. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, want to raise this issue - our biomed funding from Caudwell is no > > > longer.
