I don't know how anyone with OCD in the family could NOT be angry with

OCD. I hate it with a passion!

You may not have " missed anything " at all. OCD has its own ups and downs,

independent of other factors. I assume this is true for PANDAS kids too,

although the literature focuses on exacerbations caused by strep.

My daughter doesn't have PANDAS per se, but does have PITANDS in that her

OCD was brought on by viral encephalitis and has huge upswings when she or

people around her get sick. She has only had strep once in her life, to my

knowledge, but when her classmates start fighting colds, viruses, and strep in

the

fall, her OCD goes through the roof. But her OCD also just gets Bad for no

obvious reason at times. These past few weeks have been a nightmare of increased

OCD and tics, and she is now having panic attacks every time she even thinks

about leaving our house. She wants to quit her gymnastics team because going

there to practice causes a big panic attack. She won't play with friends or go

anywhere with us. And to top it all off, her younger brother got hit with a

nasty bug yesterday and threw up all night. Her biggest phobia of all times is

vomiting. So while I was upstairs wallowing in puddles of puke (sorry...), my

husband was downstairs applying emergency psychological first aid to Annie, who

was hysterical. And between vomiting my poor eight year old is asking " is

Annie o.k.? I'm so sorry I'm throwing up... " Geez. What a life. She has been

semi-hysterical all morning, and her brother is dehydrated, feverish and limp.

Do I

hate OCD? YOU BET I DO.

Luckily Annie sees her psychiatrist this p.m. I'm counting the minutes.

And Ben has now kept three small sips of water down, so things are looking up.

If Annie doesn't spend tonight being sick, we might all even get some sleep!!!!

Aren't you considerate?! You post to let me know " Hang in there, " while you

are having a very nasty day yourself. Thanks. I'm sorry you too are going

through another rise in OCD symptoms. It's the pits that's for sure. I hope

your son is on a quick road to recovery. I especially hope your daughter

doesn't get it.

Hi ,

Hugs to you all! With all this refusing to leave the house, it sounds as though

Annie may be developing agoraphobia. What does her psychiatrist have to say

about this? Does it seem like a med change could help? Poor little Ben, having

to worry about Annie's OCD while he's so sick. Poor Annie having her worst OCD

fear right under her nose. I hope that you can find a way to catch a break for

a few minutes. Hang in there.

Wow, what a circus right now, hope you all survive!! Let us know how

Annie's appt goes today. So sorry things seem to be flaring up for

her right now in all areas.

With 3 sons, I have to admire yours for even apologizing as I can't

see any of mine doing that due to concern over a brother, or anyone

else! ((hugs)) to Ben for caring, you've raised him right.

I had to actually smile a bit though as in my case I pictured me

saying, " Don't worry about it, it's good exposure for " ! Then

I also had to picture - being a single parent - myself being torn

between staying with the vomiting/sick child or the hysterical OCD-

fearful child in the other room. I'm not good at decisions!

Just a thought with Ben - more than once when I was sick with some

type virus and throwing up, the ONLY thing I could keep down was

orange gatorade; no other flavor would stay down, must be something

in the orange, at least for my body/system.

Just had to say it really touched my heart about your little boy being sick, yet

more concerned with his sister's reaction to it. That says it all. OCD is a

vaccum everyone in its patch gets sucked into. What a sweetheart he must be!
