: Yes, sounds like you've already got the

form. In regard to your post, another parent sent me

a wonderful story but felt it might be painful for

those of us who keep struggling with our kids

(including my Chelsey) doing everything and just not

seeing the progress that some do. I rejoice in

everyone's success but do always feel the pain of

Chelsey's continued impairment and struggle, but it

just keeps me trying harder to find the answers so

that one of these days she'll be one of these kids,

along with all the rest of our kids. I would

appreciate comments from others how they feel, along

with the joy of course that any child is better,

about hearing the stories. This campaign is mainly

for all those parents out there who may not know

autism is treatable and in some cases curable, and we

all know that. Do they inspire, depress, both,

neither? Comments appreciated. Dr. JM

For me, the stories of recoveries leave me a bit frustrated, that I am still

not doing enough, that I have missed something, and I feel so inadequate.

At this time, I have to admit that it also keeps me going, hoping that one

day, we also will find that magic answer for . Sooo, I say let's keep

them coming. The thing to remember is that each child is different and with

different severity, but we are always comparing them the same way, and

that's the trap.

Another recovery!

Needless to say, this dialog around the " stories " takes Jaquelyn and me into our

place of deep introspection around Chelsey's healing--an ongoing seven-year

exploration that covers a multitude of feelings from self-judgment, frustration

and treasuring the small movements to profound gratitude for the progress of so

many families in our community. We all seem to understand now that each child

is different and has a different path of healing. So also each parent is

different, each family is different and the harvest of raising an ASD child

varies as wildly as the children.

It is so hard to avoid comparisons, but we continue to struggle to move our

energy into finding the unique harvest of Chelsey's path of healing. So far it

has produced CSB, improved the lives of many children, prompted Jaquelyn's work

with the DAN community, led to the training of many doctors and so much more. I

am so moved by how many of you have also transformed your lives, started

organizations, been politically active, begun to change the face of medicine and

in so many other ways found the abundant harvests of dark times.

Also important to Jaquelyn and me, is that Chelsey's limited response to

virtually every protocol has led eventually to the transformation of our

relationship that could not have happened in any other way. We now are beginning

to glimpse the connections between healing and the " many-splendored " dimensions

of love that could only have been discovered in our journey with Chelsey.

Well said .

I find that if Dean is doing ok..his mama is doing ok. If he's not,

the stories are harder to read for her and just a little " why not me "

comes into the picture.

HOPE, the good gains keep Hope alive.

Dean is a " slow/non responder " to most things, but even with that,

everyday he is doing things we were not sure were possible. Sometimes

you have to set down and look back...not forward, to get a good

picture of where you are.

The success of others also give you new avenues to look into that

maybe you had not considered.

As a group, the kids are all so alike, and yet so different depending

on all the how/when/why's of their regression.

I rejoice with every good success....and keep looking for our darn

key!!! ;~)

I think the only thing that has not been thrown at Dean or Chelsey,

is the kitchen sink. Hummm, maybe I'll go shopping for a sink today,

how about you J? ;~)

On the up side....2 days ago, Dean's speech teacher reported that she

ask him " Dean, are you ready to go? " ....and a little voice

replied... " ready,go " . Now, it may be 6 months or never before we

hear that again...but, it's in there...somewhere.

I just love to hear the recovery stories! I think that a lot of parents, like

me, still have that little niggling fear in their heart that something else

could 'set' their kids off again. I am afraid not to stay up with my emails

from the lists that I am on, for fear of missing something important. I am so

thankful that so many parents can and do take the time to tell their stories. I

know that these parents' feedback saved my son. Thank you all for sharing such

valuable information.

Another recovery!
