Dear Group:

As I see it, with the hurricane season hitting the United States with such force this year we will see epidemic numbers of sick schools and homes that have been either remediated improperly, poorly or not at all.

While the damages are still being accessed I do not believe that the majority of the people realize that there are more damages yet to come. I have a feeling that the insurance companies are going to take advantage of their new "mold exclusions" in their policies.

I would like to see a "great education" occur in those areas hardest hit so that they can "do it right the first time" and not suffer further consequences down the road.

I think a letter to the Governors of those states hardest hit is in order from some very knowledgeable and reputable indoor air quality experts. Just to make sure that they "have the facts straight"....kind of a helping hand effort.

Anyone on the digest list game for this?

I think it is something that can be done that doesn't take much effort but could help thousands of people.

PS- I will do it just as a matter of course but one of you who has been in the industry and has a great reputation would have more believability. I'm just a mother who helped found a grass roots organization in response to moldy schools in our community.

The problem isn't so much with schools and hurricanes, but rather with school administrators who refuse to invest in adequate maintenance and cleaning, along with turning off HVAC systems on hot, humid summer days to "save money." This occurs even after heavy cleaning involving quantities of water. Every August, our firms get calls from schools who want to solve the "summer mold" problem - always for no more than a few hundred dollars.

Cynical? You bet. Seems the experts in school administration need to take a few hints from the experts in cleaning/restoration/IEQ investigation and analysis.
