Dear Beth,

I would choose PROGRESS.

I think that PROGNOSIS refers to how the patient will do in the future.

Hope this may be of help.

I'm translating an (ostensibly) simple medical report from Spain.

THe report is set up as follows,

Enfermedad Actual - xxxx

Exploracion - xxxx

Diagnosticos - Fracture xxxx

Evolucion -

Bajo anestesia general, es intervenida quirrgicamente, etc.

My question is with " evolucion " . There is nothing following it on

that line, which makes me think it doesn't have to do with the

explanation of the the surgery listed below it. But maybe I'm

wrong. Has anyone seen this before? I've had one suggestion

of " prognosis " from an NP friend of mine, and one of my dictionaries

suggested " progress " .

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

The meaning in English is usually " clinical course " or " outcome " --

the idea is how the patient did while in the hospital, or in your case,

postoperatively. So in your context, " postoperative course " would

probably be best.

Hi Beth,

If the term were incorporated into a sentence, I might try to refer to the

" course of the condition " instead, but here I think " evolution " is OK as

well.

Good luck

Can someone please help me?

I'm translating an (ostensibly) simple medical report from Spain.

THe report is set up as follows,

Enfermedad Actual - xxxx

Exploracion - xxxx

Diagnosticos - Fracture xxxx

Evolucion -

Bajo anestesia general, es intervenida quirrgicamente, etc.

My question is with " evolucion " . There is nothing following it on

that line, which makes me think it doesn't have to do with the

explanation of the the surgery listed below it. But maybe I'm

wrong. Has anyone seen this before? I've had one suggestion

of " prognosis " from an NP friend of mine, and one of my dictionaries

suggested " progress " .

I'd appreciate any suggestions.
