Guest guest
It was a coated metal lid, I suppose there may have been some contact. I cleaned it off of the top of the jar and changed to a plastic lid. do you think that if it is the metal then the kt is contaminated? too bad, it was a really yummy batch. > > Is there exposed metal on the inside of the lid? Guest guest
Are you sure it wasn't SCOBYferous material? Sometimes the thin nascent SCOBY looks greyish and weird. But, it it's that the KT is actually grey/black from metal contact, I think Bev and I and others feel that metal contamination is a real no-no. You don't want that stuff inside your body. When I've stored KT or KT cream with a canning jar type lid, the metal eventually does interact with the KT, even though it is coated. The slightest scratch and there's bare metal. I have been using (unbleached) waxed paper squares, held down with a mason jar ring, for a lot of food storage in fridge, and as the lid on my villi cultures. Works beauty. --V >It was a coated metal lid, I suppose there may have been some contact. Guest guest
thanks for all of the input, I think that there must have been some metal contact. certanly did not resemble scoby. either way I'm not taking a chance by drinking it. thanks. > > Right, right, the " grey liquid " might be new SCOBYferous material forming, > also.
