Guest guest
I apologize that this may be a bit off topic. My son who is autistic is developing an ear infection and I want to use alternative treatment rather than the antibiotics for him. I read recently of drops that can be bought in a health food store that are designed for this purpose but cannot track down where I read it. I hoped this group might have some suggestions on treatment that we might try. I have also read about an olive oil/garlic combination that can be mixed but do not know the proportions. Any suggestions of treatments that you have used with autistic children that are not antibiotic would be greatly appreciated ... or any suggestions or where to find this info. My ears/eustachian tubes are definitely my weak point. I'm probably the only adult with a propensity for ear infections. Lately when I get " that feeling " in my ears, I put a 3% hydrogen peroxide H202 solution in my ears. I've also done it for my kids. BTW, it was fairly uncomfortable when I did it the first time. It might help if the liquid wasn't so cold feeling. I have bought some of the Mullein drops at the hfs, but I haven't had an opportunity to try them out yet. Guest guest
For us, the recurrent ear infections are still a problem, but getting better. It used to be that whenever had a runny nose, I would wait for the ear infection and it would come without fail. Now at the first sign of a runny nose, I use the mullein flower or garlic ear drops throughout the day and have had good luck. Recently when we were traveling, a physical revealed a partially pink ear drum. Three days later after the drops they were both looking normal. (Since I didn't have the drops with me, I put minced garlic in olive oil and in a few hours the oil started to smell. I used a regular eye dropper and it worked just fine.) More recently, had fluid in his ears and it resolved without an infection most likely because of the drops. We are believers. I tried the hydrogen peroxide on myself and opted not to try it for because it took a good half hour for my ears to feel normal again. has super sensitive ears and cries from the oil ear drops, but only for a minute. I am afraid that the very unusual bubbly sensation from the hydrogen peroxide would be torture for him. But, it is in my arsenal for if the oil doesn't work! Good Luck. Guest guest
Dear , We've always had nice success with Wally's Ear Oil drops, which contain almond oil, essential oils of tea tree, eucalyptus, garlic, mullein, and echinacea root. I have purchased them at Whole Foods in my area. Best Regards, OT-help with ear infection protocol I apologize that this may be a bit off topic. Guest guest
One more note of advice for sensitive kids: keep he jar of oil in your pocket in order for it to be body temperature. It's virtually sensation-free when you put it in the ear. We only perceive " wet " because of temperature differences. Liz
