Guest guest
, I am so sorry about what is going on with your son! It breaks my heart to think of your family struggling like this--I know that it is impossible to believe right now but it is going to get better for all of you. One day you will look back on this and be amazed that you all made it through. Please continue to post--we are all thinking about your family. Guest guest
Dear : I just read your post, you and your son are in my prayers, trust your instincts. I wish you the best, sweetpea1229 wrote:Hello Everyone, Well yesterday was the day from hell. After weeks of it building my son had a total meltdown. It got so bad we took him to the closest ER.The doctors there were great, finally calmed him after 2 hours of screaming and kicking. They did not even have to tie him down or sedate him although they told him if he didn't calm down that's what would happen. After being there for 6 hours they sent us via ambulance to a mental hospital.I'm sorry but that place really freaked me out.I am not judging anyone there but it's just like one of those metal institutions you see in the movies.Anyway they did nothing. They said we could admit him but the kids there were much worse off then mine. They just kept asking him if he wanted to harm himself and he would say no(i do believe him). He just can not seem to control himself lately,so easily agitated and aggressive.Yesterday he was screaming, hitting and just breaking everything he could get his hands on.I still think it could be from the luvox or he could be bi-polar or something.Anyway it's definetly time for some new docs.It is hard to change because my son is so comfortable with them but I feel like things are getting worse instead of better. They just don't listen to what I say and have not done any kind of behavioral therapy with .Today we are all resting since we didn't get home till 2am.I am keeping home from school this week also.He only has a 2 day week.I just think he needs a break.Last night he said, " You just don't understand Mom what it's like to be a kid with OCD.I just want to be a kid and have fun. " It just broke my heart.I told him, I'm not about to give up and we will find him the help he needs.Well I think I'm about to drop, just wanted to post. It's my therapy.~~ Our list archives, bookmarks, files, and chat feature may be accessed at: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group// . Guest guest
Hi , yes you broke my heart when you told us what was going on with your son . We went through a similar situation when my son Amer was hospitalizes. I can't forget when they ties him up with both hands & legs being so much agitated & that was the side effects of the medications they were giving him. My heart is with you b/c I know how the parents feel when their children pass in such situations. All what I can say is that I pray for you & your son to go out of this trouble, & what I do beleive is that is all of the side effect of the medicine, I'm not a doctor, but an experienced mother familiar with such situations, I think you have to talk to his doctor, he either have to reduce the dosage or give him another medicine. The worse thing about these medicatons is that trial & error, not all people responds to the same medicine the same, as each one has a different side effect of the same medications. Guest guest
What a terrible time, Lindsey was on Luvox for a while and she was just crazy acting. We put her on Ripsrdal and she was fine . Good luck Jennie
Guest guest
Hi , (((hugs))) what a horrible nightmare for you all. I'm not sure you'd have to change pdocs because surely now he sees that *something's* wrong, either the Luvox is the wrong SSRI for him or it is prompting possible BP. Did the pdoc see in the E.R.? I know when things are this bad it is hard to even imagine life may return to normal...but I'm sure will turn around quickly once his med situation is figured out. My daughter had a similar reaction to Prozac, the first SSRI we tried, and I like a fool kept giving it to her and raising the dose every few days for three frightening months. The doctor insisted the dangerous activation and impulsiveness, hysterical anxious anger, new-onset self-harm, hair-pulling, violent ticcing and so on would go away once she was used to the medication. Since my little girl was also begging for relief from OCD (like your son), I hung in there for three long months before deciding this just can't be right. Looking back, we were blessed that she was not badly injured or worse during this time, she was that out of control. She has had no or only mild problems with the other SSRIs she's taken and quickly improved once the Prozac was out of her system. Take care , Kathy R. in Indiana p.s. Both the pdocs we have used, had therapists in practice with them that they wanted Kel to see. They preferred this because the therapists were sort of " eyes and ears " for the docs on how Kel was doing, and it facilitated communication to have everyone there in the same office. Problem was that none of the practice therapists had any clue about CBT/ERP, didn't think it could work with a little kid, etc. So I ended up going elsewhere for therapy but keeping the second pdoc (not the one who prescribed Prozac, he, um, wouldn't listen to me :-) and this has worked very well. ----- Original Message ----- > Hello Everyone, > Well yesterday was the day from hell. After weeks of it building > my son had a total meltdown. It got so bad we took him to the closest > ER.The doctors there were great, finally calmed him after 2 hours of > screaming and kicking. They did not even have to tie him down or > sedate him although they told him if he didn't calm down that's what > would happen. After being there for 6 hours they sent us via ambulance > to a mental hospital.I'm sorry but that place really freaked me out.I > am not judging anyone there but it's just like one of those metal > institutions you see in the movies.Anyway they did nothing. They said > we could admit him but the kids there were much worse off then > mine. They just kept asking him if he wanted to harm himself and he > would say no(i do believe him).
