ok this intrigues me... I must admit I pay only $15 for a 40 pound bag of food. It's not the worst as I check ingredients for no corn but I know it's not wonderful and would love to feed better food.

I worry about bones, I've heard horror stories.... but willing to listen more!

As example, 33lb bag of Innova, considered to be a Premium dog food is $34.95 in these parts - over $1.00 a pound But, I can get most Raw meaty bones for about 49 cents a lb...sometimes more but this is an average for me. Organ meats on sale and smart shopping helps too. Chicken leg quarters are only 39 cents a pound a walMart...it all averages out but is much cheaper and besides that, you save on Vet bills too. I never have to take my dogs to the vet. Thanks Anne and . I am joining the rawcat group. :-) There are a lot of questions I have about raw for cats. It does make so much sense, I just can't afford the free range chicken for them (I have 6), and it seems that everyone I know feeding raw is feeding free range and/or organic. I am glad to see that you have had success otherwise, Anne.

Oh, cats are obligate carnivores, Anne- you were close!

I have run into articles about Salmonella poisoning in cats (even though I have heard that their stomachs are supposed to be too acidic to support the bacteria) and animals taken in with raw bones tearing their intestinal track, so I am still a little concerned. I don't know what the odds are. I know that my male cat practically swallows his food whole, so I could see him not properly chewing the bones. If I choose, I can still keep adding bone meal to meat or get a meat grinder. They are expensive though!

Maybe a lot of anti-raw for animals are the same as anti-raw dairy for people. Then I wouldn't have anything to worry about! :-)

Oh, one of my cats does LOVE yogurt, and I have always shared with her, even when she was on commercial food. One of them throws it up though. :-( I might give one cat yogurt or kefir a day to see which ones can tolerate it. It is difficult finding the culprit when I have 6 of them! I think it would be beneficial to them.
