Guest guest
This recipe sounds wonderful! I have an ice cream maker but it’s buried somewhere in the attic L I won’t go dig up there because I’m pretty sure that’s how the bat got into the main part of the house and I’m still totally freaked out by the whole thing. I’m going to save it though. I’d like to get an ice cream maker that doesn’t need salt too.

I had been thinking about one and ran across it! I have also noticed that they are on sale at Wal-Mart right now for really cheap- under $20, I think. They are the electric kind though, neither is mine, but it also doesn't need salt. -Olif

Guest guest
Most (if not all) of the ice cream makers that don't use ice/salt are aluminum, which tends not to be used for food-preparation by the health-conscious (it can leach toxins into foods). That said I do like my $5 from a yard sale ice-cream maker - I keep the aluminum freezing canister in my chest freezer regularly, so i can make cream at the drop of a hat, without much work (have to freeze the canister for at least 7 hours before using it), its barely more work than the electric models. Many years of making ice cream at girl scout camp has me prejudiced against the ice/salt ones - takes too long, is too much work, and 30 children get really restless during that time. -- Cat tinawind@... I knew this is true for aluminum cookware, but is it also true if it isn't heated? For example, plastic doesn't leach into food unless it is heated, right? Thanks, Olif
