Guest guest
Strattera was ineffective in my experience. Judy Strattera, anyone? Hello- I know Strattera has been discussed before (I just researched the archives), but I was wondering if anyone has had any more recent experience with this med (realizing that everyone is different). Anne recently went through a battery of psycological/personality testing, and the p-doc feels strongly that she has co-morbid inattentive-ADHD along with her OCD (I am not at all surprised...her lack of organizational skills is a hallmark of her personality). The disorganization is causing school difficulties...grades have dropped from A's to C's/D's with the expected responsibility of turning work in without reminders etc. of 7th grade (she gets A's when she remembers to turn things in, 'F's because they're late. Strattera has been suggested as an adjunct to the pharmacologic arm of her therapy. I would welcome any suggestions/experiences/hugs... Thanks much- (Ohio) Anne (13, OCD and now ADD....Lexapro and ?) Guest guest
Here's your (((hug))) I know from experience how frustrating the lack of organization is in our kids. My daughter's in fourth grade but I don't imagine she'll be self-sufficient in that department by seventh either. I can't help with Strattera since we have never tried any med for ADHD, I am too afraid of kicking up OCD again. Kel's doctor continues to promote the idea of dealing with her organizational challenges behaviorally--at some point I must ask him directly what he means by this :-) Actually Kel is much better than she used to be, I can see progress, but she's very inconsistent and will do very well for several weeks and then just hit a patch where she does awfully. Is the self-sufficiency by this point an IEP goal? If so it may need to be rethought. It's fine to have things written in the file but if the child can't meet the goal consistently and it's affecting her grades or self-esteem, then it's no good. Can you drop back to the level of support where Anne was successful? One thing I've just started is looking into that brain mapping where you take a test and find out if you are a left-brain auditory learner or whatever, there are several combinations. Then the idea is to recast tasks, responsibilities and homework etc. to take advantage of your brain's preferred learning style.
