Guest guest
Christie, I'm sorry to hear that you may be going down the familiar path. I would recommend seeking professional help or your daughter. As you know OCD can and often does escalate quickly. I regret that I didn't seen the symptoms for what they were in my own daughter thus saving her the agony she endured with her 'bad thoughts'. Early intervention is critical. Keep up posted. Guest guest
My daughter's bad thoughts started shortly after she turned 6. They came on sudden and frequent (I still suspect PANDAS). My daughter kept saying " my brain is making me think this, etc. " It was awful because I had no idea where these thoughts were coming from. These symptoms lasted about 1 week and then we were " done " with OCD for about 1 year. She didn't start getting treated until she was 7, when the original symptoms and additional symptoms started up again. The good part about all this, is that you are familiar with OCD, and are probably more ready now to handle it with your daughter, than you were with your son. I worry about my 5 year old too and his reassurance issues. Although his quirks are manageable; I am very aware that he may have OCD too. I am just waiting it out... LKS My other kid Eek! DD 5 came in and sat on my lap this afternoon and said she had voices in her head telling her to do things. First she said she couldn't understand the voices, but after I talked to her a little more she said,. " Now the voice is telling me to kill you. " I told her she could tell the voice to leave her alone and that this was a stupid idea. She laughed and seemed to be able to put it behind her but ds started washing his hands like crazy when he was five. She's always seemed much easier than him, but this kind of alarmed me. Guest guest
Thanks, Christey. I think I'll ask her a follow-up question in a day or two and then discuss it with someone later in the week. Guest guest
Hi Christie, my child was 4 years, 11 months when she had her no-kidding onset of OCD, which featured obsessional ideas that she wanted to kill me, and so on. So that is probably coloring my response to your post. But since you have easy access to a doctor (treating your older son) I think in your position I would mention your daughter's comment and ask further advice. It may be something to just keep an eye on, or maybe the doctor will want to do an assessment of her. Take care and good luck, Kathy R. in Indiana ----- Original Message ----- > Eek!
