Hi Randy

My 18 yr old has been on Prozac for over four yrs. with very little side

effect. Currently on

80mg started on 40mg has be as high as 100mg on higher dose we see some very

slight tremors.

Buspar she was on for two years and one day she had a reaction, " blank out "

seems like a seizure but isn't. We put her on ativan instead.

Good luck in your medication search. Lori T in NJ

My 8 yr son has been on prozac for 7 weeks and it has calmed him down and

allowed him to work on his behavior therapy - he is more focused and listens to

reason, the first month was tough. Good Luck

Hi Randy:

Luvox--slight reduction of OCD and anxiety, did not prompt tics, made dd

tired and draggy

Buspar--given along with an SSRI (forget which one right now) for anxiety,

no noticeable effect

Zoloft--the SSRI my child has taken for three years now, caused some

activation early weeks

Prozac--definitely not for my child!! Caused many intolerable side effects

and worsened OCD

Anafranil--have not tried

You'll probably find the responses to your post don't give you too much to

go on, since which med and how much is so unique to the particular child.

Ex Prozac was awful for my child but may well be the miracle SSRI for your

son as it has been for many, no way to know without trying it. One positive

thing is that a good pdoc will be able to look at the meds, doses, and

problems that each has caused in your child and use this info to make an

educated guess as to which one to try next.

I think all this medication trial and error is one of the worst aspects of

OCD. They take months at a time when everyone in the family is nearly

desperate for relief, and is short on patience for all the fiddling around

the process sometimes demands.

Best of luck with the next one!

My child is 10 yrs old and has been taking prozac for about 7 weeks

now. He has had no bad side effects. It has helped in taking away

his anger and irritability but has not yet reduced his compulsions.

He has just had his dose upped to 50 mg. I expect that it may need

to go even higher but will wait and see. His doctor is still

comfident that it will work once we get the dosage high enough.
