I would discount " manicotto " , " guaina " seems more feasible, but what about

" cannula " , according to Taber this is a " tubo o guaina " and certainly part

of a " trequarti " .

As regards " firing stroke " can you supply some context?

Graham

Dear all,

Talking about trocars and trocar sleeves, is it correct to translate the

latter as " manicotto del trocar " in Italian? Or would " guaina " be more

appropriate? Or anything else maybe?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thank you Graham,

I'll now make some research about " cannula del trocar " ! As for a context,

this is a short test translation that talks about an " instrument " and never

specifies what it really is, so I am having some trouble in fully

understanding what they are talking about! I am pasting you some more

paragraphs here so that you can have (hopefully) a clearer idea:

" The applier may be introduced through the appropriate diameter trocar

sleeve with or without a clip in the jaw. The ratchet mechanism in the

handle facilitates a one-way firing stroke and provides clip security in the

jaws.

Position the jaws with the clip completely around the vessel to be ligated.

Fully squeeze the trigger until it stops and the firing cycle is complete.

The next clip is automatically advanced as the trigger is released. Inspect

the instrument jaw tips after each use to ensure a new clip is present

before the next firing. "

???

Grazie mille!

It is not really crystal clear (and I am no expert), but it sounds a bit

like this instrument is similar to a " sparapunti " which is why it is

described as a sort of gun, it sounds like the mechanism ensures that the

clip can only travel in one direction and will go where it is supposed to,

although it is not really clear to me what they mean, in this case you

really ought to have been given a drawing otherwise you are unlikely to be

able to provide a 100% accurate translation.

Sorry I cannot be of more help

After some research, I was thinking about the same thing, i.e. that this is

a stapler... Oh well, I will certainly point out that the lack of a context

would not allow for a very accurate translation...

Ciao!
