Guest guest
Lance, Black mold is typically a nasty pathogen. Very dusty and light when found on kombucha. be careful not to inhale as may cause a nasty sinus infection. The mold will slid easily around and if splashed over by KT will disappear. Depending upon the ferment the mold may or may not be destroyed. Kombucha when properly fermented will be anti-microbial / anti-pathogenic for typical household molds as tested specifically by Cornel University. http://www.happyherbalist.com/analysis_of_kt_cornell.htm the conclusion of their study was " the anti-microbial activity of Kombucha was attributed to its acetic acid content. " As many folks on this list are brewing with GT's which is primarily a lactic acid ferment, those values do not apply. note: a lacto-ferment would also be anti-microbial but has different values and determination. Really sour well aged KT (where the acetic acid is high ~2%, and the sugar is low) may be used as a food wash and a body splash. Very effective as a foot soak. Ed Kasper LAc.
