Perhaps if you suggest to your Grandfather that he also drink a lot more water things will change for the better with his digestion too and arthritis. It happens sometimes that the Kombucha Colony floats sideways, at the bottom, usually on the top but it will probably be fine...you will get your routine established soon. The Kombucha Colony may be thick or thin it really doesn't matter as long as the tea ferments well.
