Guest guest
Kellie, My daughter 17 with ocd went on a band cruise last year, I did report all meds she is on mainly because the nurse had to administer them. I asked for the nurse to call me and explained the various health issues including ocd. The nurse set up a time for the kids to come get their meds discreatly(sp?). I also got permission for her to carry and self administer her ativan for panic attacks as the nurse would be in different locations. You never know whats going to happen on even a short trip. They were gone 5 days and 35 kids became seriously ill. Better safe than sorry, you never know when emergency care may be needed. You need to find out who is carrying and giving meds. If she is carrying herself they probably need to know so she does not get accused of violating school policy for bringing meds not on her list. I hope she has a wonderful trip. Guest guest
Dear Kellie, I'm behind in reading posts, so others have probably said this, but whenever I run across another form where they want all medical problems and medications listed, I wince. Then I decide whether I would be called immediately if there were any kind of a problem (like a local afterschool class, for example) or whether she might be taken to a hospital in an emergency (on a school field trip or an overnight thing). In the latter case, I would certainly want the medications all listed because the hospital or emergency service workers would need to be aware for possible drug interactions. So in a few situations, I don't include the information (don't tell anyone!) but if there is any chance at all that she might need emergency medical help and I wouldn't be immediately available, I tell all. Hope this helps! in NV
Guest guest
Sorry - forgot to include something in my response. I was recently given some pain medication for an injury and I was reading the package insert (note to Kathy R - it wasn't in my personal copy of the PDR!) and noticed that it can cause serotonin syndrome because it will potentiate the effects of SSRIs. Who would think that a pain killer would interact with an antidepressant? This is the kind of thing I worry about if I don't tell someone that she takes these medications. Granted, they would need my consent to treat her unless it was a life threatening emergency, but still... medications can be tricky. in NV
