Hi Sandy,

My 61/2 year old son just started Prozac less than a week ago. I asked him

about swallowing a pill but he said NO WAY. One of the CVS Pharmacies near

us (although not the one that's really close by) is able to make it Orange

flavor (but not Cherry- my first choice). I have no idea if it helps mask

the flavor because my son holds his nose to swallow it. Thank goodness it's

only 1/4 tsp!

When my daughter was diagnosed at 5 with OCD, she started swallowing the 10

mg prozac with no problem. The 10 mg capsule is smaller than the 20 mg

capsule. 10 mg did not help and over the next six months the psychiatrist

increased

to two 20 mg (40mg). Once she started putting on weight we had to adjust her

meds to keep the balance. At one point she took 5 of the 10 mg capsules

daily. She hated having so many to take every morning. She is now 10 years of

age

and 88 pounds and has taken 60 mg prozac daily for 1 1/2 years and is doing

well, although we do have occassional bumps in the road. in Houston

Hi there...just throwing in our experiences with Prozac. My son (age 7)

has been on a pretty low dose for about 8 weeks now. At week 5, (at 15 mg.

daily) we saw a huge reduction in anxiety and OCD behaviors. Amazing,

really. Some issues are still popping up every day or two, and we may

raise the dose a small bit more, but it is pretty different from the

constant anxiety & meltdowns we were having over all kinds of

contamination, avoidance, etc. a month ago.

Now that the anxiety is manageable we will be attempting er/p therapy

again.

hope this helps...I would be interested in knowing if any other kids are

taking such a low dose of Prozac. Is my son just really sensitive to it?

We haven't seen any side effects but a few changes in sleep the first few

weeks, some mild stomach upset, and some mild constipation.

Sandy
