Where are you going to be in about two years Marilyn? Maybe you can homeschool my little girl.

Austin

LOL! I'm sure that if you want to homeschool her, you will be the PERFECT teacher, Austin! :) All you need to start is love and a willing heart. The rest will come. Marilyn Worried about job security? Check out the 5 safest jobs in a recession.

I've been enjoying all of the big family discussion and just had to chime in.

We have eleven, ages 24 down to 3. Two are married and working, 1 is engaged on

a 5 month mission in Guyana, 1 in college, 2 in high school, 5 are still

homeschooling, we have a 21 year old girl living with us attending our local

community college, and 2 foreign exchange students (boys from Thailand and

Portugal). We usually have at least 12 for dinner (22 last Saturday).

My husband and I went to Chile for nine days and our 23 year old son and his

wife moved into the house to run the show for us. They did a great job, and I

loved 's perspective. " Now I know how you do it, you have to be selfless

ALL the time! My make up and hair routine went out the window on day one! "

Gabe(3) gets around the clock " therapy " with all of the family, friends,

interaction, and love. Yesterday our two exchange students were vying for play

time with him--reading books, playing on the slide, throwing balls.

It's a great experience and we are blessed with two really great guys who just

join right in with the family. They are very open and will share their

perspective, but they want to be a part of our home and culture, too. We told

them from day one they are part of the family. They help with housework, make

their own lunches, have family devotions with us, everything. My husband

introduced them as his " sons " last weekend and I think they were both thrilled.

We have a 2500sq ft house (a converted barn) on 44 acres and

drive a custom built ford truck/RV van type of thing. It has two seats in the front

and a bench in the back that folds down into a bed. We also have a 6 passenger

truck.

The “family” car is the Truck/Van. We used to have

an 18 passenger bus before we moved from CA to OK, but we didn’t drive

that thing out here.

Our house in California was 1800 sq. ft on 2 ½ acres. Smaller,

but in some ways we had more room, since it had more rooms.

In our house now the boys share half the upstairs (their big

room) and the girls share the other half (well, more than half actually J). We have 2 baths, a huge kitchen,

and about a 900sq. ft living room. The huge living room is one of the best

things about the house since we have lots of barn dances here (my sister &

I teach the kids my mom homeschools & our other homeschool friends line

dances) and family & friends over ALL the time. Our house is always in

action, almost always has someone over.

We do the goats for milk. We’re just starting a garden/orchaged

.. . . have only been here 7 months, so can only do so much in that time frame!

We slaughtered a couple hogs yesterday with my cousins, so we

have half a pig in the freezer now J. Yum! We’ve slaughtered a few goats and some chickens too, but

they aren’t near as good as home grown pig.

Living off the land is awesome and so much cheaper, especially

when you have a big family who goes through food like nothing.

Congratulations!! Theresa, 8 with DS, makes her First Communion on May 17th and is very excited! Theresa walks up with me when I receive and twice has almost received it because she put her hands out properly (once for the host and once for the wine). She cries whenver I tell her she has to wait until May 17th!

Good Luck!!
