Guest guest
Twenty years from now..... it will just be "my" family reunion. : ( I made sure my kids had a REAL family. I am an only child. No family get togethers here. My BIL is the only sibling of my husband, and we hardly ever see him. I totally, completely LOVE it when I see all my kids interacting--from the 30yo playing catch with his brothers who are more than 20 years younger than him, to my youngest daughter (who was 2 in October) playing with her niece--my oldest daughter's child (who will be 2 in June). We had the chance to live out a dream of ours, and move to Florida. But I COULD NOT give this up. My older kids all live in NJ. So we will be moving to PA. No way could I leave my family behind, even for our "dream". Marilyn Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for under $10. Guest guest
told my SIL later that I felt like the prize brood sow at the County Fair. KathyR LOLOL!!!!! That's awesome! When I went to a childbirth prep class in 1998, I was pregnant with my 7th child (my husband's 1st). He had taken my teenage son to Disney World, and missed his flight home. So I ended up going to the class (which I had signed up for because of my husband--not for me!) with a friend of mine--a Catholic mom of four, with several in Heaven. When they went around the room to ask if we were expecting our first babies, we were HYSTERICALLY laughing! Between all our births and angels in Heaven (I have at least 7 in Heaven myself), we had more children than the whole rest of the room COMBINED! WAY more! We thought that was soooo funny! Guest guest
I always assumed it was because Catholics are against birth control, and a lot of people seem to think that the only reason someone would have a lot of kids is because you were forced to due to your religion. Guest guest
It is difficult to take more than one or two kids anywhere, but it is SO worth the looks and comments we get! Steph wasn't too terribly brave, Ruby, because chances are the older ones helped with the younger ones. At least that's what happens here. Unless you have five under five or something similar, the older ones learn early how to help and watch their siblings. When my younger ones were REALLY little, we made sure we never went anywhere without at least one other teen or adult along to help. Three wandering girls with DS, and "two under two" was just a lot to deal with! We had a twin stroller, and attached three of those "leashes" to them sometimes when we went out. In a dark aquarium, or crowded park, it might LOOK horrible, but it kept them all safe! Marilyn Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for under $10. Guest guest
You can count me in with the "hopeless and loving it" crowd as well! Lorene Yay!!!! Another "hopeless" family!!!! It's funny, because my husband grew up in the 60's, and belonged to several rock bands all through his teen and adult years, until very recently. He was not aware of anything to do with modesty issues, or anything like that. When I told him I would not use birth control, he was genuinely confused! LOL! I never did, and planned to never, work outside my home. I homeschooled and had homebirthed. I was not a fan of traditional medicine. And on and on--you get the picture. Guest guest
Well lots of Catholics here would still only use the "natural " method of contraception which is taught during your pre marriage course at the church. I have 4 living and 2 in heaven and probably would have had more if My marriage had not broken down. My mum had 8 , her mum had 9 , my dads mum had 11 and each of her children did not have less than 5 kids. ( for most the avg was 11 though ) . Funny to think all those families were raised without an electric washer or dryer . Just a wash tub and board and a wringer. My mum got her first automatic washer just 12 years ago. :-) . I could not cope without a washer but do line dry and don't have a dryer . PS 9 years DS makes his first communion 9th May this year. We are very excited !!! Guest guest
You Hedonistic Thing you I have been drooling over one large capacity washer. Maybe one day. I only have 5 at home now. Total of 6 living. We are in a three bedroom home.. Thank GOD for bunk beds Our two Grand Children.. ages 2 and 1 yrs may be coming to live with us. WE have 4 girls at home.. Fianna age 11, Charlotte age 8, Sophie age 5, and ( ds) age 3. All sleep in one room. My son.. the lonely only boy in the middle... age 7 thinks he is the little prince. He is the only one with his own room. At first he liked it. Cause he had been sleeping in his sisters room.. but when his sister moved out at age 18 - two years ago..he got the room. Now he hates it. He has begged for a brother. I told him to Talk to GOD When was born he said " momma.. I love my baby darling sweetheart ( his pet name for Sam when she was newborn) But Next time can I have a brother?" Anyhow.. he loves when my grandson - only age 1 - spends the night. We let him sleep in room. And he loves it. Anyhow.. I would love a bigger house. But will settle for a big washer Steph Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Lorene & Marilyn...How many kids do you have..... Now I feel totally decadent, wanting two washers and dryers! But darn it, I KNOW we need them because I see how backed up we always are. I am not one to do laundry regularly enough to keep up--too much else going on. My husband, bless him, does most of the laundry anyway, but he can't do it all either. I really feel if we had two of each--the super capacity ones--that would make all the difference for us. As to the bedrooms, six is my minimum, with valid reasons. One room, of course, is for dh and me. Two of the girls share a room, because you can NOT separate them. It would be a waste of time and effort to try. The third girl is our "diva" and our OCD/neat freak. I pity anyone trying to share a room with her! The two boys are VERY different in every way. When they shared a room, it was a disaster for the older boy--totally unfair to him. He DESERVES his own space! I promised him as soon as one of his older siblings moved out, he could have their room, and that's exactly what we did. I am SO happy we can do this for him, and I will NOT make him go back to sharing. Then there's the baby. We can't put her in a room with a much older sibling with disabilities. It would just not be a good situation. That "dorm" arrangement is a good one, and usually works quite well. I almost did it years ago--and five kids ago. Had our family dynamics not been so off the wall, I wouldn't mind that one bit. I know families who do it, and I have nothing against it. I am just very grateful that we can do what we do to give each child the space they need. Hopefully this does not come across as being "spoiled" to anyone, because I seriously don't believe that's the case here. Marilyn Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for under $10. Guest guest
I am Catholic.. but I often get asked if we are " Mormon"? Since we started going Dresses/Skirts mostly/only.. No one asks anymore they just figure we are hopeless. If happens to be our last.. I regret that many will assume that we " stopped" cause of her DS. When in reality that will NOT be why. I m just getting older. Not too old yet but older just the same. They will not understand that has been enjoyed the most and so far has been the easiest and most motivated etc etc etc. She has made me a better mom. Had she been born first I might have been a better mom to the others in the early years. Then again.. maybe some of it was just the experience of being a mom. Who knows.
