Guest guest
- Hi - All I can give you is anectodal information from our own experience. There are lots of postings here that also have stories and claims from others about the PEG in the Miralax and how we believe it's affected our child's brain function. Many of the children talked about on this website seem to have problems with simple tasks, tics and sensory issues. Some of the children have cognitive disorders and autism, so the PEG really affects them. Some of the posts discuss the possibility of the PEG crossing the blood barrier into the brain. That's what the main debate seems to be. So, as for hard evidence/studies, I can't give you that. I just know my son is smarter than he seems to be and I blame the miralax...his cognitive ability seems to be slowly lessening, then one day he'll blow us away with what he can do...it seemed to have all started after a while on the Miralax (he's been on it almost 6 years). I feel like I haven't helped you or answered your question directly, so I would go back and check some of the posts. There's also a link at the miralax group where you can check out studies. Maybe that will help. Sorry I couldn't do more. ~ Tracie --- cmcl1961@... wrote: > > Hi Tracie, > > I read your post on Miralax and the brain and wanted to see if you could give me more information. I don't yet have a clear understanding of how miralax affects a child- my son's pediatrician put him on it for witholding/constipation and I am going to start weaning him ffrom this and try the alternative approaches discussed here. Can you tell me about the connection between Mirlalax and the brain?- I'm worried of course. My son has been on it about a month and, of cousre, I had no idea until recently about the negative effects. > > Thank you very much, > > > RE: Miralax and hair loss?? > > > > > > > > Hi Tracie....I've tried quite a few things... > the 1st dr....prescribed ...miralax...we used only a > couple times...because i had heard so much neg about > it...and i know ALL drugs have side effects. > > the next dr. prescribed...lactulose which is a fake > sugar....since he has down syndrome he is susceptible > to diabetes we are avoiding sugar as much as possible > ...so that is out > > i have used prune juice with apple juice...still > pretty sweet...for my liking for him..and not great > results > > because he is so lil he doesnt eat a lot of high fibre > stuff...still baby pureed foods...veggies and protein > > formula is constipating and he is still on that > > so for now...i give him....liquid magnesium, essential > fatty acids and acidophilus (children's formula) > ....and a remedy..homeopathic called allium cepa...so > far its pretty good...he was very badly constipated > and was in extreme pain...he would sweat, turn blue, > scream like cray and try to get away....not fun...as > i'm sure u may know too...lately i just catch him on > the floor playing with poop in his diaper...where as > before he would go days and need suppositiories and > have much suffering. > > i suggest ruling out any other problems...ie: > hirchsprung and not really to self treat...many > naturalpathic drs have great remedies that work... > > when connor is older...i'll be giving him special > homemade stuff that a hospital would make that i > worked at: bran flakes(1), applesauce(1) and prune > juice(2) > > Also, When connor is about 2 or 3 ...i'll start giving > him a wonderful drink called " fibergy " by usana...many > clients of mine use it for constipation for their > children that have spina bifida and have severe > constipation as a result. how old is your child?
