Thank you, Renuka, for breaking your silence.

In the first mail addressed to you, I do not want to contradict you.

So I shall only pose a few questions for you. Just think them over.

<Cow - a Gomata- There are several reasons for this belief. Yadavas

worshiped

the cow because Shri Krishna was convinced that cow milk was a good

source

of nourishment for the children who would grow up to be strong men to

fight

the evil Kaunsa. >

How come man is the only species which drinks milk meant for the young

of some other species?

In ancient times, even clouds, rocks and trees were worshipped. Should

we continue the same practice without seeing them under new scientific

light?

By drinking milk of the cow, aren't we robbing the calf of its right?

By the same logic, shouldn't we call a Buffalo or goat a mata?

Our Father of the nation drank Goat's milk, so should we call Goat a

Grandmother?

Other sources of nourishment like Soya are higher in protein content.

Should the Soya plant be called a Pita?

<The cow has always been very useful to man and served him throughout

her

life, particularly in the earlier days.>

Does this mean that I should start calling my Computer a father and my

stethoscope a brother?

<India is (was?) basically an agricultural country and the oxen played

a

major role in agriculture in the premechanized days. Cow dung was used

as a

fuel and to smear the floors. The cow's urine is considered to possess

medicinal properties. The cow's hide is used for different purposes.>

You have added the word 'was'. Does that not mean that the time is

ripe to abandon this outdated practice?

How many times a year do you smear your floor with cow dung?

Morarji Desai considered his urine medicinal. Should we call him Pita?

If utility is the criterion then today Bill Gates is the most useful.

Shouldn't he be called Bill Mata?

What about Pfizer and Ranbaxy? Don't they provide us with more

medicinal help?

<That's why we have festivals to honor both the cow and the bullock.>

There is also a festival to honour the village idiot in Goa. He is

crowned King Momo, the king for a day. In India there are 365

festivals a year to honour somebody or something. I have a calendar

which has some festival on each and every day. Naag Panchami honours

snakes. Vat Savitri honours trees.

<I would also like to address another issue raised earlier about blood

transfusion. Only normal saline, 5% albumin, ABO compatible plasma or

plasma

protein fraction (with packed RBCS) can be transfused with the blood

and are

approved by the FDA here.>

Interesting. Wouldn't anyone wait until the blood bottle is completely

transfused before adding plasma or protein fractions? What advantage

would you gain by adding things to the blood bottle?

Please do not take my mail as being a censure. I am very happy that

you have written. I personally am not against Gau Mata. However, my

attempt is to awaken everyone and start questioning long held beliefs.

If you feel offended by my questions, please ignore them. But now that

you have started, please do not stop writing.

Like Ravin discussed earlier, we all are Deists. So we should never

accept anything blindly without proper AND SCIENTIFIC reasoning. I

think we should all have evidence based religion. :)

Dear Ashok,

> When it comes to GOD can we really be totally scientific and rational ???

If we can be scientific and rational about something, 0-1 logic implies that

we are being irrational/absurd.

Unfortunately we cant have fuzzy logic here...

I have always held that man considers God an excuse... that is why God still

exists in our minds.

<----- Original Message -----

Most of us have some degree of weakness of heart/mind. I would rather

go to the temple ( if I find solace and strenghth there ) rather than

go to a psychiatrist/psychologist (no offense Nadu) for every small

thing

True faith develops/strengthens/boosts your " inner strength " >

There you are Ashok.

You have just proved my point. Religion IS the opiate of the masses

(and maybe the asses).

Dear Ashok,

Pardon my ignorance when you say - " Be vegetarian if you want to qualify as

100% Hindu - but you don't have to aim for such a high goal right away !! "

Give me one religious reference that says you have to be a vegetarian to be

a Hindu?

Do you know that there is not one single reference that says Brahmins have

to be vegetarians?

Eating habits developed due to the abundance or scarcity of things in

differenct areas (like you have said in one of your earlier mails - coastal

brahmins eating fish)...

I feel too much has been said on this topic, lets get over with it and move

on to other interesting topics!

What say you?
