Guest guest
" Rigby " wants source DMSO/MSM locally and would like any info. 2 grades: LR $29.60 x 500Ml AR at 58.oo, I paid $37 for 500 ml, . For animal use. Made by Bio- of Belmont, WA, but when someone else rang them up, they said they didn't make it any more. I bought mine from a feed store. Surely a vet would have some. What sort of quantity do you want? How much would you have to buy? Did they say what LR and AR are? Ah, I suppose it's something I should know. Nothing like that on my bottle, though. Guest guest
Where the heck are you ? MSM at least is everywhere they sell over the counter drugs on the USA. DMSO is a bit harder to find as it is mainly used in labs or large animal vetrinary clinics. Could you consult with a large animal vet to see where you can get DMSO? I suppose you wouldn't need to have a horse to ask the question. Margaret Park
Guest guest
IN the US you can order DMSO from 1-800-JEFFERS <www.jeffersequine.com> for less than $5 a pint, vet grade. This is the exact stuff my horse vet sells for $8. He uses it orally and IV as well as topically. Jeffers will not question you nor will most feed stores. Don't know about vets, each one is different. Find a good ol boy country vet who works with large animals. They are the best in my experience, if you have to buy it from a vet. Guest guest
Garnet, Most interesting your Jeffers' DMSO! How do you know that it is a " Pharma Solvent Grade " ? Certainly nothing in Jeffers description says this. Have you had private communications with them to discover this? Gaylord Chemical is the major DMSO refiner in the nation to my understanding. I am curious, if anyone has looked into prices with them on bulk? I wonder what a 55 gallon drum of Pharma Grade is going for from them? I find it interesting that at their site, they write this: " A little known fact is that an impurity, BMTM (bis-(methylthio)methane) is responsible for most of the odor associated with inferior qualities of DMSO. Gaylord Chemical has developed engineering processes that remove this and all other odor causing trace impurities from USP grade DMSO. " This is the first I have read of this! I would think this would open DMSO up for more legitimate lab trials, if the subjects could not detect the presence of DMSO easily. doug Re: Re: DMSO stock in Oz > IN the US you can order DMSO from 1-800-JEFFERS <www.jeffersequine.com> > for less than $5 a pint, vet grade. It has the standard caveat about being for solvent use only. It does not say Pharma Solvent Grade. I am not sure there is such a distinction. I just asked the pharmacy I buy my generic Banamine from in Elkhart, TX if they can get a better grade for a good price. He has Rx pharmaceutical grade and a reagent grade (called it something else), but both are very pricey. They do have great prices on wormers and all kinds of horse drugs though and I really like them. Elkhart Pharmacy I pay $3.50 for a single 1250# dose of Banamine feed through powder, and $12.95 for a 3000# tube of gel. They are a compounding pharmacy that services the horse industry. > Gaylord Chemical is the major DMSO refiner in the nation to my > understanding. This may be the low odor DMSO that sells on his web site. www.jacoblab.com A 55 gallon drum would have to much cheaper than buying pints or gallons. And certainly it would be nice to have low odor as well as an assayed product. Do you know where they are located? I may just call and chat with them. Guest guest
Garnet, I am afraid that a label saying 99+% pure is no indication that it is pure enough for say, IV injections. etc. Did your vet say that Jeffers is what he uses? Most curious, if it is! The " pharma grade " is the grade name, labeled by Gaylord for medical purposes. It is the only grade that meets USP standards. The tricky thing about dealing with outfits like Jeffers is that it is often very hard to tell what grades their suppliers are furnishing. Afterall, it is illegal for any over-the-counter firm to sell USP grade DMSO, thus, they can not advertise it as such. Now, whether in good concious, these suppliers will obtain the best grade they can to sell for animal or human use, even though they must by law disignate it as " industrial " is open to debate. Gaylord's site may be found at the below link. They have some great data on DMSO, i.e. solubility with various pharmaceuticals, etc. Some nice reading at their site. I have often thought about contacting them for a price and particulars on acquiring a 55 gallon drum. I tried emailing them a few years ago with no response. I suspect a phone call would be more productive. By all means, contact them and let us know if they will sell a drum to a small business! I suspect they may be a bit leery of dealing with an individual, so any enquires should be in the guise of a small business. Guest guest
Regardless of labeling this is the grade my vet uses for IV injection. By experience he has found it to be satisfactory. I understand the caveats and reservations, but there is a 30 year history of use with very few problems and not every one is using pharmaceutical grade by any means. It's just one of those things that you do what works with what you have. I would love to have pharmaceutical grade but it is out of my reach price wise. Although if I needed to use it IV more than on a one time basis I would likely spend the money. Thanks for the Gaylord link and info. I will let you know if I call them what they say. There is also a scientific supplie in my area that may have it. I need to look for drums of hydrogen peroxide too, 15 gal hopefully, to get my costs on that down too. Guest guest
Garnet, I agree hardily with you in that even the so called " industrial grade " appears to be very safe for about any medical use. In using this grade for around 30 years, I have never had a bad experience, even in the most contaminated of areas. I think this is a testimony to the safety of DMSO. If you find a good source of H202, I would be most interested in buying some from you in smaller quantities. doug Re: Re: DMSO stock in Oz > Regardless of labeling this is the grade my vet uses for IV injection. > By experience he has found it to be satisfactory. Guest guest
Unfortunately Doug, you must be a licensed and inspected facility to rebottle H2O2 in smaller packages for shipment. It is a Haz Mat thing. One reason I am looking locally so I can pick it up. But this is definitely one item some distributors will not sell you if they think you are doing any of the alt health stuff. You must appear to have other uses for it, like for a hot tub, garden, farm, etc. I have yet to feel out any local distributors. I have been buying from http://www.h2o2oxytech.com/ There is a $20 per box hazmat fee so if you can buy say four gallons rather than one the cost comes down because all four can go in the same box. I generally go through four gallons in 6 months and could use it more. I love to use it for long soaking baths and wish I had a hot tub for this purpose. It really helped when we had the Fujian Flu last year and had not yet started using CS.
