Does your brother-in-law live in the house? I think that if it only

occasional that it probably won't be that bad. Just definitely don't allow

anyone with tobacco smoke/residue on their hands to handle the cloth

covering, vessel, or SCOBY, without washing and rinsing thoroughly.

but he is in the house a lot . and smokes in the house My hubby use to be a

heavy smoker but quit quite a few years back so we really can't say anything

to him about it and even if we did it wouldn't do any good- thanks for you

Rita, Well ok, since he's around a lot, is there a room in the house that

he doesn't do into that much, which could have a closed door on it? If

not, then try the cupboard idea. If it doesn't work, okay, the SCOBY dies

which is not good, but unless you try it you won't know.

Hi Rita,

Yes, some people have reported mold on their Kombucha and attributed

it to tobacco smoke.

Smoke even second hand smoke is so bad for your health, not just the

health of your Kombucha that you may want to learn more about the

effects of second hand smoke and ask your brother in law to smoke

outside. Especially if you have children at home.

Hello - My fiance and I are both smokers - I was concerned also - what

i did was took over my sons play room -- well one wall of it -- we

keep it closed at all times and my kombucha does phenominal!!!!! I

went ahead and invested in some air cleaners also - great deals on

EBAY I got 2 Holmes Hepa filters for under $25 shipped. I figured they

were a good thing to have merely for my son - and the 2nd hand smoke -

as well as mold spores etc cuz i also have a ton of house plants.

So if mine survive with plants and smoke - I think u will be fine -

just shelter it away from the smoke - Does he live with u>?? My

co-worker's husband smokes like a chimney - but not in the bedroom -

so she brews in the top of her bedroom closet - no foreseen problems :)

Best of Luck

I have tried a piece of ginger root and blueberries are awesome. Now, about

jams and jellies... How do you do that ?

of flavored tea such as ginger, orange, peach, berry,

etc. etc. etc. The varieties are endless.....and most are delicious.

In addition to the flavored tea bags which are very simple to use, you

can also use fresh berries and fresh ginger root or jams and jellies

etc. You get the idea:-))

Hi Millie,

I always add my flavoring to the bottled KT after it is decanted from

the fermentation vessel. I would just put the amount of jam or jelly

desired according to the amount of KT and the intensity of flavor

desired.
