Hi Stacie, I live in Plainfield, Il. is now 8yr 3 months. I will just brief you on a bit of our story. I had been told to take to Bonnie McBeth in our district. They provided all screenings for children with potential problems. We knew that something wasn't the way it should be with . I have 4 sons from a previous marriage. I waited 10 years and then had and just knew he didnt play or act like the other boys. I searched and searched for answers. First hearing tests. Finding pediatricians that said they were developmental specialists. Talking and talking to whomever would listen. Finally I spoke to a woman who helped me look into the possiblity of "autism or spectrum disorders" I didnt even know how to say PDD-NOS. Anyway, I was directed to Little Friends and Yes at the time ouch financially. But we put it on a credit card. What else could we do. I needed and wanted a full evaluation and was very pleased with Dr.

B... from there. The OT and Speech evalutaions were also good. The Speech was the best for us. We actually had to bring back because he couldnt do it all in one session. He needed breaks and such. That Speech evaluation was very comprehensive. Alot of schools do not have qualified personel doing these. IT is soooo important to have your child seen by a Dr. whom has knowledge and experience with spectrum disorders. As many people have responded YOU MUST meet criteria for these diagnosis. Based on the DSM IV. only qualified persons can actually diagnose. But once you have it in writing- then you are able to get the services for your son. The school wont recognize his needs without it. And even with it- I hate to say this Stacie- but be prepared to fight for everything your son NEEDS and REQUIRES to get his education with public schools. I do so much continiuing research on what is the law vs. what the school tells me. Wherever you take your son, I

strongly recommend you to do it soon. Then you will all at least have the big part of the puzzle and work from there....

Good luck again and feel free to email me offline if your close to me maybe we can meet at a Mcdonalds or something with the boys...

invnsble1@...

can someone clear something up for me?

I really am having a hard time grasping something. What is the difference between Aspergers, PDD and Autism? And, if you are considered high functioning, what exactly does that mean? I am really having a hard time with understanding all of this.

Thanks,

Stacie B
