Guest guest
> Anyone have trouble with fever blisters, (herpes simplex 1) when using > DMSO? Hi Turtle, I'll jump in with 2 cents worth, since no one seems to be around this weekend. The cold sore reaction to using either DMSO or MSM sounds like an acid reaction. The sulphur in these products is an acidic mineral, and if you tend to be slightly on the acid side, then using these would be might be making you even more acidic. There are 2 things you could try to see if these sores could be prevented: A little sodium bicarbonate, taken in water at another time of day from using the DMSO/MSM----anywhere from a " pinch " to about a 1/2 tsp will help neutralize some of this excess acidity. Using calcium, an alkaline mineral, is specific for " tightening " up the skin so that cold sores do not break through. The type of calcium called for here is calcium lactate, known as an ionic form of calcium (which I've never fully understood, but can testify that it works). To enhance the calcium effect, you could/should use an omega 3 oil, such as flax or fish oil---this will help the calcium penetrate the tissues, just where you want it. Hope this helps, Sharon > Had a hip replaced 13 months ago, Right total hip, second revision. > Could not walk on it due to reoccurring bursitis. > Started putting DMSO on the hip and solved the problem, but, > got a cold sore on my lip. > It took a while. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Thanks for the info. Will try the baking soda, I started with 1/4 teaspoon MSM a day, worked my way up to 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. Took about a month for the fever blister to appear, then, after that it seemed to only take a little bit of either MSM or DMSO to bring it back. I guess the MSM builds up in the body, don't know. So far, my hip bursitis is under control with applying DMSO only about once every three days. Thanks for the help, Turtle > Hi Turtle, > > I'll jump in with 2 cents worth, since no one seems to be around this > weekend. > The cold sore reaction to using either DMSO or MSM sounds like an acid > reaction. > The sulphur in these products is an acidic mineral, and if you tend to > be slightly on the acid side, then using these would be might be making > you even more acidic. > There are 2 things you could try to see if these sores could be > prevented: > > A little sodium bicarbonate, taken in water at another time of day from > using the DMSO/MSM----anywhere from a " pinch " to about a 1/2 tsp will > help neutralize some of this excess acidity. > > Using calcium, an alkaline mineral, is specific for " tightening " up the > skin so that cold sores do not break through. Guest guest
This is my husband's experience as well. He uses a mix of CS/DMSO to stop cold sores in their tracks. I'm wondering if taking Lysine would help. My husband makes a point to increase his intake of Lysine whenever he eats a lot of high Arginine content foods, such as nuts, whole grains, chocolate. A diet high in Arginine really feeds and stimulates the virus. So you might want to take a look at your diet, too. I've never heard of the calcium connection to herpes simplex I, or that it helps, but I intend to pass the info on to my husband. paula Beth Toraason wrote: >Wow, I've had the exact opposite reaction: I've gotten a fever blister >and used DMSO and CS to stop it in it's tracks. Guest guest
Thanks for the replies, When I get the fever blister it starts as a red, tender area on my lip, then, breaks open. Applying CS with a Q tip closes the open area, but, the tender area remains. I found a reference to the possible relationship between DMSO/MSM and fever blisters by following a link on the home page, http://www.krysalis.net/dmso.htm and then clicking on chronic fatigue & fibromyalgia near the top of the page. I've started taking 1/8 teaspoon MSM each morning and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda each evening. (In my original post I should have said I started at 1/8 teaspoon MSM) I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Turtle > This is my husband's experience as well. He uses a mix of CS/DMSO to > stop cold sores in their tracks. > I'm wondering if taking Lysine would help. Guest guest
DMSO with CS topically always knocks out my fever blisters within hours, at least they stop growing and will not even blister if I catch them at the prodromal stage (throbbing or tingling tips me off, also location on my lips). As to it causing Herpes outbreaks I can see the acidity idea, but also that it could treat the ones it causes. Nettles is like this too. You can use it as a tea to treat the blisters it causes topically.
