Yep; I lived in Munster (as in Herman) until almost age 6, before my family

moved to West Virginia. My parents are Indiana University alumni. Lame nerdy

joke: last year I disproved Lamarckian evolution (inheritance of acquired

characteristics) because I visited a friend at IU-Bloomington and didn't

recognize anything of the campus.

That is, while I have sources and inspirations, I think about The Big

Questions and come to conclusions for myself. My answer tomorrow

might not be the same as my answer today.

I still look forward to your blogs. Though I haven't posted much yet, I have

been reading a lot yet. My interest in autism has been going on for more than

two months now. I get very interested in a subject for a time, and then I go on

to another subject. But even if I went out and got dx'd, I would have great

difficulty thinking of myself as autistic. So far as I can tell, my senses work

fairly well, though I don't like to touch or be touched very much. Though I

never gave it much thought before, I do have trouble with recognizing people by

face and with reading faces. Fortunately there are many ways to identify

people, so I never noticed any problem. But there have been quite a few times

when someone would recognize me, but I would either not recognize them or would

have to think quite a while first. And my speech does have autistic

characteristics, even a tendency towards echolalia. My eye contact is not very

good, but I can force myself to make contact if I think about it. And lastly, I

do stim myself; I just didn't realize it. The case for me being on the

spectrum looks good, though I am halfway hoping that thinking I am autistic is

just a phase that will pass when I lose interest in autism. Right now, I can't

think of a better working hypothesis to explain myself. Without the internet I

would not have been able to learn about autism from people that have it. DAVE

Would any of you mind if I added you to the link section of my blog (I can

give you a pseudonym if you prefer)? In the case of the LiveJournal folks,

can I add you as a Friend? (I don't have an active LJ blog, just the free

account so I can log in, comment on posts, and track everyone on one

central Friends page.)

The top four currently listed as " Screwballs " on my blog are also

Spectrumites... Hmmm. Is there an Autistic Blog webring, anyone know? I

know there's a webring for *websites* by ACs, but that's not the same as an

online journal/blog as far as I know.

I have just joined the group so hi everyone! I can never remember

most of this stuff but it gives a reference point and helps break the

ice I think... descriptive pigeonholes are good too to get a handle

on things I find, as long as they aren't used to judge or dismiss.

I find this interesting. How does one go about starting a blog, anyway?

It's pretty easy...if you're not a huge geek like I am (I host my own) you

just go to one of the various blog providers and start up an

account. Everything from there is pretty much just click-and-type as the

basic website automatically generates itself for you. The two that seem to

be the best right now appear to be www.livejournal.com and www.blogspot.com

I really love writing in my blog at all hours, but I see that others like

use theirs to post images they've created, so knowing your interest

in cartooning you might take that angle instead. Right now I'm also using

a private blog with a friend to take turns doing creative writing. (One

person starts by posting a few lines, then in the " comment " area the next

person adds a few more, then you take turns back-and-forth. It can get

really silly and is a whole lot of fun if you're working with someone that

has a similar sense of humor.)

My webring is specifically for *websites* by ACs, which includes blogs

(I will update the information to include that):

http://a.webring.com/hub?ring=ringofauties & id=1 & hub

It is not specifically for blogs, but it includes blogs and any other

sort of web-based site an AC would make. And it definitely needs more

sites. (I really want it to be a good directory of sites by autistic

people, since all other webrings that allow contributions by ACs also

allow other people's sites, which means you're also navigating through

NT sites, which is fine if you want to do that but for people who want

to see only AC sites I thought there should be a different ring.)

A separate autistic blog webring would be a really good idea though,

too.

You're welcome to add mine, if you like. It is

I will look at your webring tomorrow when I have

access to the web again.

If you want a LiveJournal membership, you need to get a code from someone

who already has a membership there. I still have a handful of codes if

That's a kind offer. I would be interested in a code for LiveJournal, if you

still have one...
