Dopamine receptor sensitivity

Here's my best guess as to what happens when you start and stop a dopamine agonist. It's a tri-phasic cycle.1. When the agonist is started it stimulates the dopamine receptors and hopefully triggers a reponse in the form of increased libido and so on.2. After a certain amount of time, because the dopamine receptors are being continuously stimulated (which is an unatural state), they will downregulate and become desensitized. This will lead to decreased intracellular signalling, and thereby libido etc. will actually decrease.3. When the agonist is stopped, the sudden withdrawal of the ligand causes the dopamine receptors to upregulate and also to re-sensitize. It is this upregulation and re-sensitization that Biker, Velden, and others have experienced. Why the dopamine receptors would not upregulate and resensitize after withdrawal of an SSRI is unknown but apparently they do not.So I guess the best way to permanently resensitize dopamine receptors to their natural ligand is to cycle on and off a DA a few times.Thoughts anyone?

Has anyone on this board experienced increased libido as soon as the

agonist is started? (Phase 1)

I have.

I tried Mirapex and the second night I was on it I remember

thinking " wow, this drug is a miracle " . But then I turned numb again

and the feeling was gone.

The same initial effect happened with Dostinex too.

I think Vornan's theory makes a lot of sense.

This is an older paper, but it shows that dopamine receptors resensitize in response to reudction in dosage of L-dopa in a Parkinson's patient:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=742858 & query_hl=4 & itool=pubmed_docsumVornan--- In SSRIsex , "bikercompany" <bikercompany@y...> wrote:>> > >> > > > Has anyone on this board experienced increased libido as soon as the > > agonist is started?
