Sheena--

What kinds of "alt to miralax" are you using? What kind of success? If you don't mind me asking...

Hi Tracie....I've tried quite a few things...

the 1st dr....prescribed ...miralax...we used only a

couple times...because i had heard so much neg about

it...and i know ALL drugs have side effects.

the next dr. prescribed...lactulose which is a fake

sugar....since he has down syndrome he is susceptible

to diabetes we are avoiding sugar as much as possible

....so that is out

i have used prune juice with apple juice...still

pretty sweet...for my liking for him..and not great

results

because he is so lil he doesnt eat a lot of high fibre

stuff...still baby pureed foods...veggies and protein

formula is constipating and he is still on that

so for now...i give him....liquid magnesium,essential

fatty acids and acidophilus (children's formula)

.....and a remedy..homeopathic called allium cepa...so

far its pretty good...he was very badly constipated

and was in extreme pain...he would sweat, turn blue,

scream like cray and try to get away....not fun...as

i'm sure u may know too...lately i just catch him on

the floor playing with poop in his diaper...where as

before he would go days and need suppositiories and

have much suffering.

i suggest ruling out any other problems...ie:

hirchsprung and not really to self treat...many

naturalpathic drs have great remedies that work...

when connor is older...i'll be giving him special

homemade stuff that a hospital would make that i

worked at: bran flakes(1), applesauce(1) and prune

juice(2)

Also, When connor is about 2 or 3 ...i'll start giving

him a wonderful drink called " fibergy " by usana...many

clients of mine use it for constipation for their

children that have spina bifida and have severe

constipation as a result. how old is your child? If

you or anyone else wants more info on that and how to

order it ...let me know..I'll tell you how to get it

at 10% less than wholesale./...you can mail order it.

I used it for my daughter with spina bifida too...for

a change we are giving her the magnesium too.

i'll also make connor special cookies that are high

fibre when he's old enough..it has been very

challenging because he's so lil...diet makes such a

big difference,

there are many remedies that work..but a naturalpath

is best for that decision because he /she would

discuss all aspects of the child and help pick the

best most suitable remdey for the individual

child...connor tried calc carb, and a couple others

....so so results

here are some sites with more info....if you dont have

a naturalpath near by...

high fiber cookies;

hope this help...i know it has been a real challenge

for me with my son...even knowing what i know :)

I'll be glad when he is older and i can get him to eat

more high fiber foods and drink the fibergy.

good luck! let me know what you end up doing!

Yeah, I know lots of things can cause hair loss, but after reading up

on the subject, nothing really hops out as being obvious.

I can't say I've seen this side affect from Miralax, I've been researching this for seven years, I'd look at the next in line..............your alternative meds. Also, do you spray your house with pesticides? Your lawn with weed killer? I once new a neighbor that said his dog's nose was deteriating from being allergic to grass, for most animals, it's their home, once you spray these chemicals on the lawn they become very toxic and you get symptoms of deteriation and sometimes hair loss. I'd look into your environment as well. Hi Sheena - Thanks for all the good information. We are doing all the same as you...we've looked into other many of the same issues, diets and alternative therapies. The difference is our son has a collapesed colon...we have to keep his stool soft and moving or it gets stuck and we end up in the emergency room. Which is where I think we'll be in the next few days unless something drastic happens...We work with a naturopath, but he only wants to give remedies - none of which have worked. We've probably tried over 100. My quest is to find something that keeps him going to the bathroom without messing up his brain (miralax). He's too great of a kid to have to deal with brain issues for the rest of his life - as are all of the children in this group. :) Tracie
