Switch to a mac?

Sorry Graham, I couldn't resist that, I'll ask my partner if he's got

any more constructive ideas when he gets back this evening (He'll start

off the same, but might have other suggestions too)

OK Graham, I've asked my so (significant other) (he says he's my " IT

people " ) and his advice is to go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG

(which is free) and run it to get rid of the virus which has eluded

your previous virus checker.

He says it's the best available except for sophos which is designed for

company servers and is horribly expensive

best wishes

The suggestion to switch to the apple mac platform is not

disingenuous.

The additional initial expense of hardware is recouped easily by the

lack of hours lost messing around with virus disinfection and endless

system patching with Microsoft garbage. I did have a virus once on an

SE30 in the late 80's, which came not from the internet but a

commercial games disc. After years of religiously downloading and

updating virus defs from Symantec every month i now do not even bother

anymore - Panther is brilliant, and if you are on the network server

side, apples's X-serve is a plug n play breeze compared to Novell.

Alternatively, move to Linux. But The very least you should do is

remove ALL Microsoft apps, especially IE/Entourage/Office and use

sensible alternatives - but it still leaves your OS exposed.

Virus software is like conventional medicine - it addresses symptoms

not causes. In that world, as would say, your shampoo is

only as good as your creme rinse.
