Ok Ladies!

I am testing a new doctor... don't cringe too hard Jan, he is an

endocrinologist. His name is Mark Leshin, and he is at Baylor in

Dallas. He spent 2 hours with me on my first visit, learning what he

could of my thyroid background. He is not a real proponent of

Armour, BUT he does have three patients currently on Armour... all

whom he placed there. He typically likes to run the gamut of

synthetics first, and when he cannot find a fit, then he turns to

Armour. He now has 4 patients on Armour... =).

I talked about wanting to try some synthetic T4 with my armour, he

talked about wanting to optimize me on the armour alone. I had my

three previous labs with me, of course the results were less than

wonderful. He had the same conclusions I had. I started on 90

Armour, my T3 skyrocketed over the top, T4 dropped below norm, and

TSH was very suppressed. As a result, last doc INCREASED my armour

to 120... hmmm. At which point the next labs show my T3 WAY over

top, T4 WAY under norm, and TSH VERY suppressed. I was the one who

made the decision to drop the armour back down to 90... wanted it to

be at 60 with some T4, but the other doc wasn't going for it. So we

tested at 90, and Dr. Leshin says we will probably back off to 60 and

retest in two months.

Dr. Leshin called within a day to discuss my results. BTW, I did not

take my dosage before the testing. He was intrigued by the results,

wants me to continue on, and retest in 2 months, with one exception.

He wants me to take my meds about 3 hours before testing. Here are

results:

T3, TOTAL 114 NG/DL RANGE 60 - 181

T4, FREE 0.7 NG/DL RANGE 0.8 - 1.8

TSH 0.11 MIU/L RANGE 0.40 - 5.50

T3 312 PG/DL RANGE 230 - 420

My FT3 dropped down into tange, my FT4 is closer to range, and my TSH

is not as suppressed as it has been... very strange.

Sorry so long, I'll let you know how it progresses with this doc, and

how resistant he is to my 'suggestions'. =)

I'm feeling really good right now, besides a little chilly... of

course it did snow on the weekend, so everybody was a little chilly

*grin*. I tend to ramble a little bit, so I wasn't very clear in my

earlier posts. I had the drop in medication from 120mg to 90mg

armour before I saw Dr. Leshin. We talked about dropping even lower

because he was looking at my previous labs that I brought with me,

which showed such high levels of FT3 and Total T3, way over range.

But he said he would discuss it with me after the results of the labs

he took. The results of my most recent labs were surprising to us

both, putting me within range of my T3's, and almost in range for the

FT4. And TSH was not as suppressed. Based on this, he decided to

leave me at my current dosage.

He will retest in 2 months, at that time he said we may increase, or

maybe add one higher pill every third day... he said there are

different options. I do not take any other pills at the same time, I

just take my armour when I first wake up, empty stomach. Not on

birth control, or any other hormones. I take Topamaax at night befor

I go to bed, but I don't think it interferes with the armour. If I

start splitting dosage, I will still take them apart, as I go to bed

about 10, so I will take the armour around 8 or 9... will that be far

enough apart you think?

thanks for the input!

If you're feeling well on the combination, then don't change anything. The

hormone blockage, in this case, is not an absorption, digestive thing,

rather, thyroid hormone blockage at the cellular site, as with soy,

estrogen, and many other things.

In this case, it will not matter how much thyroid hormone you take, part of it will be blocked to being used by the body. So to take any form of estrogen with your thyroid hormone is defeating the purpose of treatment. I would take these two very far apart from each other, and even then, I would think that you would need readjusting, should you quite the birth control pills. It is a very high competitor for displacement in the cells.

I take my 120mg Armour every morining with my birth control after reading your response I am wondering if the birth control effects the Armour or why you stated to not take anything with the Armour.
