I haven't checked her myself but she has been checked both with blood test

and urinalysis by her GP within the last three months (also a more recent

urinalysis) - sorry, should have put that in the first email

I believe that Interstitial Cystitis (non-infectious) and " irritable bladder

syndrome " are part of the " picture " in CFS... perhaps including

anti-inflammatories (i.e. Boswellia, Turmeric, etc) and smooth muscle

relaxants (i.e. Viburnum, etc) could be helpful for her. If she is

overweight, you may suggest investigating for Diabetes, as frequent

urination may be an early sign. Is she very thirsty, despite water intake?

Perhaps also having her kidney function tested might be indicated, too.

Just to cover all the bases.... Have you done any urinalysis testing?

Cheers,

When considering diabetes - consider insipidus, which, I believe, will

not show on urinalysis...

Hi and Benn

I think diabetes insipidus would show on urinalysis as a low specific

gravity of less than 1.005.

excessive urination

hello all

I am treating a lady with longstanding CFS who is grossly overweight and

has, for the last 6 weeks, not been able to stop weeing - she needs to get

up 8 times in the night and cannot go out easily during the day. I have been

treating her for three months now and she has lost a stone in weight, feels

much better and has more energy - she had suffered from constant leg pains

but these are now improved, so I felt she was slowly improving overall.

She has copious urine every time, with no irritation or pain and initially

I felt it was fine as she obviously had a fair amount of fluid retention

with puffy legs and ankles etc - howver this is causing sleep problems and

she is despairing now.

I am currently giving her withania, cinnamon, tinosporia, pau d'arco, kelp

and nettle - and she is drinking mostly water but no more than 1-11/2 litres

daily - she has stopped tea and coffee, and is drinking ginger tea (maybe 2

cups daily)

Any ideas as to how I could help her please as she has done so well in all

the dietary changes she has made and I would hate for her to give up now

many thanks

Herbert

I'm sorry I've lost track of where the original query originated for this

patient.

If the tests for diabetes etc. are negative may I suggest a possible

explanation and solution? I believe you said your patient was overweight and

was working at this with diet etc. Have I remembered that right? And that

she had lost weight as a result?

If she has put herself on a high fruit and veg. diet one of the things that

will happen, quite rapidly is that the body will begin to replace excessive

amounts of Na in the cells with that wonderful stuff potassium from all the

fruit and veg. The effect of this is that where unhealthy food has caused

the retention of water and Na (after all if cells are full of rubbish the

body tries to dilute this to minimize damage). Once replacement begins the

healthy body cannot wait to get rid of the unhealthy stuff. Vast quantities

of urine, usually with high levels of Na in it will be eliminated.

This may be what is happening with your patient. The problem is that in this

case her body may have gone a little bit too enthusiastically at the

elimination thus causing sleepless nights from urination.

So- the solution. Slow down the process of detoxification, increase a little

the protein content in her diet. Add a little fish or about 200gr. Per day

of low or non-fat yoghurt. Not excessive amount or the good work done so far

may grind to a halt but enough to slow down the excessive level and give her

good nights sleep.

Let us know if this is of any use. Thanks,

Allshorn
