Guest guest
There is quite a good physical treatment for this sort of pain whether it is thoracic outlet syndrome or not.. It is not invasive and if it doesn't work you have lost nothing. Get a therapist to stand behind you while you are on a massage table. They need to place their ipsilateral thumb on your anterior scalene muscle while the contralateral hand distracts your head to the contralateral side. This provides a very effective stretch of the anterior scalene muscle. The repeat on the middle and posterior scalene. I have fond this to be very effective in weight lifters and swimmers with similar problems. True thoracic outlet syndrome seems to be less common that it is diagnosed Damon Kendrick Lecturer - Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Biochemistry [Don't forget to sign your letters with full name and city] ----------- B Burgess wrote: <<<Im a powerlifter, I've occasionally got pain in my elbows after squatting (and sometimes push pressing and benching) but this week it has really sneaked up and got on top of me. It manifests itself as a shooting, nervy pain predominantly in the back of my (mainly) right elbow. The reason I suspect it may be thoracic outlet pain is: a) I squat with a pretty low bar, and TOS can be caused by compression of the area. Elbow pain occurs immediately after squatting. It hurts especially when I inhale a deep breath then exhale it. It almost seems as if the transfer from in-exhale sends the shooting pain down my elbows. However I've been reading a little around the subject, and most cases seem much more severe than my problems...yes, the pain is excruciating, but I get no whitening of hands or loss of radial pulse etc. perhaps I am just being a weed and its simply tendonitis or something? I appreciate that remote diagnosis is almost inevitably useless, but does anyone have any information/ideas/helpful hints etc? They would be extremely warmly appreciated as I have a Physical Test for the Fire Brigade (as part of an entrance exam) in 3 weeks so I really dont want to have to stop training!>>>
