Heres my thought on that. I was a member of the longhorn band for 5 years

and in band during high school. I don't think I ever saw a band that didn't

have a stripe down the side of the pants. Much later I learned this was to

show of the movement of the leg from far away (like the sideline). Having

the stripes on the leg probably helps see who's kicking rights as well

as making the tape appear more uniform.

who will be checking out the competition at the Catskills 11/12-11/14 trying

all of the fitness routines at another hotel after trying 5 at another hotel

all lame compared to Tae Bo but it keeps me in shape while away from home and

stops me from pigging out.

I'm not sure I can swing going to L.A. on such short notice. (It's

unfortunate they didn't schedule the tapings further in advance! :-( ) And,

then, I'm not sure I want to be passing out at the end of a class while a

camera's on me....

BUT, if I were to go, I'd want to coordinate with some of yoose guys!!

You could get those one day disposable contact lenses if you don't wanna

wear your glasses... I have many pairs that I sometimes use for working

out. I too wear glasses, and I can't see a thing without them

Just try doing the advanced at halftime and even substituting similar moves

for those that whip you like I do not do jumping jacks.

You can also try starting with a Basic and ending with the floor of an

advanced.

Make sure when doing the Basic you are doing it at full intensity with full

range of motion

work-outs but only occassionally doubles up on the Basics

I did 2 Advanced and 2 Basic workouts. I've been doing taebo since the

end of May and I do 4 days of Advanced and 2 days of Basic back to back

so I get an hour workout. I always have one day of rest a week and I

like to alternate between Advanced and Basic so I usually do M, W, F,

Sat Advanced and Tue/Thur I do 2 basics.

Let's see....Jasmine led one of the classes instead of Shellie and yes,

she actually has that much energy in person. Both and Debbie

were in some of the classes. Also, taeboqueen was there as well.

's sister Irene was the shadow in one of the classes (I think

that's on the later tapes that were filmed in June if you have

those....you know in the back of the class there is a screen where you

can see the outline of someone working out). I did hear them talking

and I think they may have a little screen that stays on in the bottom

corner of your screen that has a shadow following 's moves so that

when you are looking at the tv, you will have someone to follow who is

facing the same way as you. Does that make sense? Let me know if I

just totally confused you and I'll try to clarify it. I'm also not

sure about that...I just overheard some people talking about it.

Actually, where you stand has more to do with what you are wearing as

opposed to how well you do taebo. It's really quite a production...you

stand around for like an hour before you actually work out. And in

that time you are moved around a ton of times. So it was actually a

little bit of luck that I got to stand there...plus I was towards the

end of the line so they were running out of room. But perhaps the best

compliment that I received while I was there was from the camera man

who walks up and down the sides and videos close ups of people. I had

been at the Advanced class on Friday and the basic that I got to stand

behind Shellie was on Saturday. While I was standing there, he said

" I'm glad they moved you up, you did really well yesterday " . That made

me smile, because he's looking at me through the camera's angle...so

that had to account for something!

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions....I could talk

about it forever because it was such a great experience. Meeting and

talking to was a dream come true.

are, that's why I signed up in this egroup.

You're lucky that you got to be in the video. You've been doing it since

end of may 6 times a week? When did you start seeing results, like real

results? I know they say you get to see results when you stop looking for

them!

I find basic too easy for me and I can't seem to finish the advanced tape.

Any advice?

If any of you can tell how you started out and what you went through, I

would greatly appreciate it, and it would probably keep me going!

Talk about difficult. I was totally losing my balance, but I didn't

feel bad because everyone else was too. The next time you do that

wear to the workouts? Did you get to talk to , Debbi, Jasmine,

, or TaeboQueen? What are they like? Were you able to do all the

moves? A live work out would kill me because I don't pick up the moves

quickly. You are so courageous! Congratulations on the comment from

the camera man -- wow, to be told you were good on the Advanced

workout! I can't think of any specific questions but I am terribly (and

strangely?) interested in anything and everything you can tell us about

the tapings. It will not bore us (or me at least).

I started reading and posting on Questions for TaeBo Queen " in March. She

responded to posts at least two times everyday. She was gracious,

encouraging and inspiring...and extremely committed to everyone on the board.

When I met her in Houston at the opening of the TaeBo Center there, she was

warm and loving. She may have been tired or stressed out when you met her in

L.A....she had a knee injury while in Houston and was subsequently sick with

bronchitis. She's been on the go constantly. You're right...it's unfortunate

she expressed herself in that way in public, but from what I know of her, it

was probably a bad, stressed-out day.

might want to order one or more of the Basic Live tapes from the Taebo Web site

or the 1-877 number on the back of the videotapes. Basic Live I is a lot of fun

and has good music and a lot of new moves. Also, does a short floor work

that will help get you ready for the floor work on the advanced tapes. Have you

read 's book " The Taebo Way " yet? It has great instructions and pictures

to help you improve your form. The better the form, the better the workout.

I started Taebo in April and did the Instructional tape 6 days a week

for about 3 weeks, then the Basic Studio tape for 6 days a week for the

next month until I felt I could do all the moves competently and

correctly (the double time back kicks slowed my progress). Now I do

Advanced tapes (alternating the 4 live and studio tapes) 6 days a week.

Recently, I tried doing 2 advanced tapes a day and paid for it with a

pinched nerve in my hip and lower back problems. Now I back to the one

a day schedule with one day off. I also lift weights 3 days a week for

the upper body, stretch every day (with a tape called " Stretching " ) and

have started doing the Yoga Zone beginner's tape. This seems like a

good combination of exercises for me. Although I would love to lose

weight and clothes sizes, I really want to get stronger and healthier,

while avoiding injuries. I hope this helps.

First of all, welcome to this group. It's a great group of people and

there is a ton of information, as well as motivation from everyone.

Glad you are here. I didn't see at any of the tapings I was at.

I started seeing results during the summer, but not really pound wise.

I lost a couple of pounds, but definitely noticed myself becoming much

more toned. I never measured myself in the beginning, so I don't know

how many inches I've lost. If you are just starting, I'd advise you to

measure yourself, because that's going to be much more accurate than

the scale in terms of charting your

progress. I had a baby on Christmas day and since January I've lost 35

lbs...about 20 of that was pre-taebo. I've tried to stop focusing so

much on my actual weight, and go by how I feel and how my clothes fit

me. I definitely feel way stronger now than before I was pregnant when

I actually weighed about 5 lbs less.

I'd advise you to get a Basic Live tape if you don't have one. BL1 is

a great all around workout and it's more like an intermediate tape.

It's a great workout, but not quite as hard as the advanced. When I

first started doing the Studio Advanced I had to walk it out quite a

few times. Just do it at your own pace and before you know it, you'll

have finished the whole thing without stopping and you will feel a

tremendous sense of accomplishment! Also, I agree with Barb, maybe add

the floorwork from the Advanced to the end of the Basic or do the Basic

followed by the 8 minute tape. Just keep slowly increasing the amount

of time you spend doing your workout and before you know it, you'll pop

in that Advanced tape and find yourself doing it all the way through.

Good luck and again we're glad you joined our little " taebo group " .

Sandy,

It's not so much about what you are wearing style wise as opposed to

the colors. Like they wouldn't want two people in all black next to

each other or two people with yellow shirts next to each other or two

guys standing next to each other. They like stuff with lots of color

in it because it adds to the look of the set I guess. They did hand

out lots of taebo shirts, especially the bright yellow ones for people

to wear if they wanted to. Of course, you have your token " beautiful

people " you know the ones who come all decked out in full make-up and

hair done as if they were going out on the town. They tended to

irritate me just a little bit, but it is LA so I guess your going to

have some of that....people that just want to get on a video. But I

was like, " Come on, this is a workout people.... " . For the most part,

though, there were all kinds of people there. All different body

types, all different fitness levels...which makes it fun and REAL!!

I have a question. You said that where you stand has more to do with what

Do you have Basic Live 1? It's the only Live tape that I own so far, and I

find that it's a good intermediate tape. The workout level falls somewhere

between the original basic and the advanced tapes.

I also like Barb's suggestions for adding challenge to the Basic workout --

more intensity and full range of motion. You might want to focus heavily

on your form, too. Sometimes that extra focus will increase your intensity.

Let's see...for the first taping I wore black Addidas pants with white

stripes down the sides and a matching Addidas tank top type thing, but

they didn't want me to wear the top because of the Addidas logo. So,

they asked me to wear a yellow taebo shirt which I had to cut off at

the waist because it was so long. They recommend that you cut the

shirt, so it's not so big. Well, I'm not used to wearing a shirt when

I work out and there were a few things that I didn't like about it.

First, I sweat like a monster, so by the end of the workout I was

drenched and the sleeves were sticking to my arms and basically getting

in my way. Second, I have a pretty big chest...not huge, but it's

definitely there and whenever I did any type of punching across the

body, the shirt would kind of fly around me....if that makes any sense.

Third, when we had to get on the ground for the floorwork, the shirt

kind of flew open and was just hanging on me. So, needless to say, I

didn't volunteer to wear a t-shirt for any of the other tapings. I

told them it stressed me out!! LOL

For the second taping, I wore blue Addidas pants with white stripes and

a gray tank top...that was for the Basic. Then, for the Advanced right

after it I changed into black pants with a stripe and a green camalouge

shirt that had my fiancee's band " Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies " in bright

orange across the front. The writing was really small, so you couldn't

tell what it said. I figured I'd try to wear it and if they told me I

couldn't I'd change, but they didn't say anything. I guess the

camaflouge was different and added a little variety to the mix. But I

was laughing because I had told my fiancee I was going to try to wear

it in one of the tapes. I'll laugh if that's one of the videos that

gets released, because I'll have to post on their website that everyone

has to get the taebo video to check me out in my SCW merchandise! The

last workout I wore black Addidas pants with a gray stripe down the

side and a matching tank top...this was the same outfit that I tried to

get away with on the first day, but the Addidas was in gray as opposed

to white, so it wasn't as noticeable. They weren't really enforcing

the logo on the top thing strictly because there were others who were

wearing the exact thing I had on and they got in. So it just depended

on when you got there and whether the girl saw you in time to tell you

to change. I guess they want to limit the free advertising for anyone

other than 's taebo stuff. He should have had merchandise there

for people to buy because everyone would have bought stuff to wear. We

even had to take the labels off of our water bottles if we brought our

own water.

I talked to Shellie for a little bit when I introduced myself to

after the first workout. They thought it was great that I had

travelled from Nashville. Shellie is alot of fun. She's always joking

around with everyone. Most of them only come out right before the

class is about to start, and alot of times they are going to be doing

another class right away, so I didn't want to bother anyone. I did

talk to taeboqueen and I didn't really get a great impression, but

that's just an impression. The one thing that bothered me was that one

of the ladies there...actually it's the older lady in alot of the

videos...her name is Marcy (I'll tell you about her in a minute) said

to taeboqueen " You're on the internet, aren't you " and taeboqueen's

reply was " Yeah, it's part of my job description " in a less than

enthusiastic tone. That kind of left me with a bad taste in my mouth,

because there are a lot of people who post to her board for motivation

and it means alot to them. She has no idea who is standing around in

that class and any one of those people could have been someone who

posts to her site. For her to say it is just her " job " does not say

much for her commitment to the board. I just thought that she is

supposed to represent taebo and I didn't think that was an appropriate

comment to make in a room full of people that she doesn't know. Also,

when I introduced myself, I told her that I posted to her boards (this

was the night before the stuff I just described happened) she was just

kind of like " oh really, what's your name...nice to meet you " . I don't

know....I just didn't have a very good impression. I was thinking

about writing to the taebo people because I just think as a

representative of taebo, you really should be more sensitive to the

things you say in public, but I don't want to say anything to offend

anyone, so I'll probably just keep it to myself. And there are alot of

people who adore TQ, so I don't want to say anything bad. Again, this

was just my first impression...and I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Maybe she was just having a tough week or something.

About Marcy...she is 76 years old. She's the older lady in alot of the

tapes and in the introduction she says " Yes, Yes and Right " (I think).

Anyway, she's so fit. On Friday she did all three tapings...Basic

1-3pm, Advanced 3-5pm and Advanced again 7-9pm. THEN, on Saturday she

went to 's gym in the morning to workout and came to the 1pm

Basic. She was upset because she had to babysit her grandkids and

couldn't stay for the other workouts that day. Then, she was there on

Sunday for the 1pm Basic. And she's 76!!! If that's not some

inspiration then I don't know what is...I hope I'm still going like

that at 76.

He did throw in some new moves that I had trouble with. He does a jab,

uppercut, jab, uppercut move to each side, which when sped up to

doubletime I really had to think about. And, then when you start to

think about doing something too much, it actually becomes harder.

There was this one move where he did a right jab, right hook, then left

punch across the shoulder....I think that was it. Anyway, again when

sped up to double time...I really had to think about what I was doing

and messed up a couple of times. There was one move during one of the

tapings that absolutely everyone messed up....I can't even remember

what it was now...but it was super fast and nobody could catch on.

It's one of those times when you wish he showed you the moves at a

slower pace before speeding them up ( I think that was one of Barb's

suggestions on ways to improve the tapes, which I totally agree with)

but you just kind of go with it. He stresses that if you can't keep up

with something to do it at your own pace or walk it out and they told

us that was fine at the beginning of the tapings. I think it's

actually better, because it shows that everyone is at different

levels...and the most important thing is to have fun!!

Yeah, there were definitely times when you lose balance, but you just

try to get right back into it. I was so nervous before the tapings,

then you're standing around for so long before you actually get to

start, but once you get started you just lose yourself in the workout.

During the first class, one of the songs was " Shake your groove thing,

Shake your groove thing...yeah, yeah " and I caught myself singing

along. Afterwards, I was thinking " Man, I hope they didn't get THAT on

tape...ha ha " .

I went to get my water so many times, I'm sure they got a million shots

of me. But they told us in the beginning to go ahead and get water

whenever we need it because it helps to remind the people at home that

it's ok to drink water during the workout. I drink alot of water at

home, but man in the studio, my mouth was dry during the warm up...so I

had to take lots of water breaks. You do take for granted the luxury

of being at home and pressing pause...sometimes I felt like we NEVER

walked it out...when in actuality, I know we did, but I guess sometimes

on the tape, I take that extra minute when needed, whereas at the

studio, you have no " pause " button...LOL.
