Hi everyone,

I joined this group a while ago but decided to un-join for a while as I

couldn't keep up with the messages. I've since decided to re-join as I

really needed to be " around " people who also suffer from this. I'm having

quite a bit of trouble with it all at the moment.

I saw my GP a couple of weeks ago and mentioned soft sound sensitivity to

him. I took him a copy of Marsha's article about it, and he read it and said

he thought it sounded " plausible " which made me think he had previously

thought I was making it up, or something?! I'm not sure. I found it very

difficult to convey exactly how SSS makes me feel. Exactly what problems it

presents in my day-to-day life, and how it affects the people around me.

I've learnt to sort of put up with it over the years, so I probably wasn't

enthusiastic or passionate enough about how bad it can get. I got the

impression from him that he didn't really consider it a medical problem at

all, although that may just be me being paranoid.

He needs to see me again in a couple of weeks about an unrelated matter, and

he's said we'll discuss it then. He's going to research SSS and hyperacusis

a bit and then talk to me about how to proceed. He may be referring me to an

ENT specialist - is this a good idea? I have no idea. What sort of questions

should I be asking him, and what sort of things should I be telling him? I'm

worried that even an ENT specialist won't know anything about it.
