I could not agree more!! I know some people that have a lot of success on

things like Adtkins (sp?) and can stay on that and it works for them. My food

demons were all about my emotions. I think every person has to experiment to

see what works for them. I know, for example, that while I try not to label

anything off limits, there are some foods that I cannot control myself with.

So, there are no potato chips or powdered donuts allowed in my house. Every

thing else I can be reasonable with, those two things-forget it! So, that tip

may help someone struggling out there. There are some foods that you may just

have to say, " hey, I cannot have this around " . Sometimes you have to ban your

" trigger foods " . These are just some things that have worked for me. But it

is all about discovering what will work for you!

Pasta is something that I can't stand to live without. I know I should eat

whole wheat pasta, but it's just not the same. And I have to have something

sweet every now and then. Fruit really helps to curb my cravings. I love

ice cream, and when I feel like having it, I try to substitute low fat cool

whip, a crumbled up snackwell cookie, and a sliced banana. I know this is

full of carbs, but it is the lesser of two evils.

I tried the Atkin's diet last year, and lost 15 pounds, but I could only go

so long without anything sweet. I am not a diet soda person. I am very

particular about what appeals to me in the way of substitutions. I can't

stand fat free margarine, and I can't handle the aftertaste in diet soda's.

Congratulations on controlling your portions. Any time I have ever

began a diet, beginning was always the hardest part. I have always started

by cutting way back on my food intake and drinking lots of fluid. After you

get that down pat, then you are better able to start to control what you are

putting in your mouth. I started by cutting carbs, and then I cut my fat. I

don't measure anything out, but I try to eat small portions (a big problem

for me). We didn't get this way overnight, and we're not going to be slim

and toned overnight. It all takes work and time. Hang in there and nature

will take it's course. ;o) Sharon

aha but with a Mongolian Grill, you can control the sauce and the oil

You take a bowl and fill it with whatever you want then a cook sautes it on a

huge grill

I loaded up on crushed garlic & skipped the sauces and other seaonings cuz

the garlic with all of the veggies was loaded with flavor

OK I did add a tablespoon of seasame oil but that was the only oil or fat and

the carbs were minimal

I'm with you babe!

I thought about trying the Atkins diet, but I know I will never stick to it

forever, and then I'll just pack them pounds back on.

So, I'mjust trying to cut my calories, and eat what I want. Some of it is

junk (a lot of it is junk), but I'm starting with calories, and then I'll

work on some other things.

I did start drinking more water, and less sugar drinks. I'm on day 10 of my

21 DC, and I try to control portions. So its a start anyway! Guess thats

also my brag for the week.

>Sandy, you motivated me to make changes in my eating habits so I hope I can do

the same for you. After setting our 2-month " challenge " for watching our diet,

I succeeded in not drinking all but one day of this past work week and,

consequently, not binge eating during the evening on all of the days of this

past work week. Knowing that you were working on your eating habits and that we

would check up with each other on January 16th. got me through this week. You

can do it to. We are only talking about a little less than 2 months. Then, if

you hate your new diet, move on to something else. You might try to make your

plan to change your eating habits more specific and concrete. For example,

rather than saying that you are going to try to cut down fat and sugar, say that

this week I will get to have dessert on Saturday and Sunday at dinner. I'm

thinking about you. We can do this together. Good luck.

Thank you so much, , for your very wise and reasonable comments. I

do find that when I tell myself I can't eat something, it just makes me

want it more. So I should stop thinking in those terms. Rather than

having a list of " red light " foods (foods that I can't eat because I always

overeat them), I should just use portion control.

This sounds like something I can do!

Red light foods. Cheesecake, fried chicken wings, and Pillsbury sugar

cookie dough are my red light foods. These are things that I eat until

they are all gone. There *is* no portion control for me when it comes to

these things. And yes I have eaten an entire cheesecake all by myself...

all in the same day! What the heck... I didn't gain these extra 50 lbs

eating celery! <g>

Sandy,

congratulations....that is so great! And it just shows how important

form really is. It doesn't matter how high you kick....it just matters

that you are kicking correctly! Yeah Sandy!!!!

(who tried to explain to her roomate how important form is when

she was watching me taebo and said " that doesn't look hard, I think I

could do that " without ever having watched the instructional video

That's a good way to look at it. It's simpler and easier. And it carries

a positive tone ( " I will have... " ) rather than a negative one ( " I can't

eat... " ). Thank you!

I have a brag! I have a brag!

:::whispered::: It's about time.

Who said that? <g>

Anyway... many of you were on this list when I was going through my 21dc

and will recall the back problems that I had as a result of doing the kicks

improperly. WATCH YOUR FORM!

So... I took the kicks completely out of my workouts. I just did knee

raises or uppercuts or something else whenever the tape got to the kicks.

Then I took a week off to go on a cruise. Great rest for those back

muscles that I had strained. I got back last week and started up with the

TaeBo again, still not doing the kicks during my regular workout. But I

did start to practice the kicks separately, paying close attention to the

instruction in 's book, and focusing specifically on the proper form.

Here comes the brag. I finally felt comfortable putting the kicks back

into my workout today. I did BL1, including the roundhouse kicks. I used

the correct form (I can tell because of which muscles I feel the stress in)

*and* still kept up with the the tape. No the kicks weren't high. But

they were correct, and that's most important! I felt the stress in my

thighs and butt, right where I'm supposed to feel it.

Woo hoo! I can do the kicks!
