Guest guest
I think taking calcium or calcium supplements interferes with thyroid absorption. If I remember correctly (OMG we have to depend on MY memory! LOL) you need to wait at least an hour after taking your thyroid meds before drinking milk or taking a calcium supplement so you will get the full benefit of your meds. Guest guest
I'm not from that area, but it is imminent that you don't ever take your calcium with your thyroid med because it competes with the absorption of the med. Take it separately by about 3 hrs or so. I take Armour dissolved under my tongue, so this is not so much an issue, but I still take it widely separated. What is your diagnosis and the details of that? Tx Calcium > Hi, I am new to this group and I live in East Texas. I have heard > that you should not take Calcium at the same time you take your > thyroid meds. Have you all heard this and do you agree? It is on > the 'scare' sheet you get from the pharmacist. Anyone from Longview > or Tyler that can help me? Thanks,
Guest guest
When I was on T4 meds-only, I always took it early in the morning, one time, all at once, but Armour is a whole different thing. This is because it has direct T3 in it, which has an immediate effect on the tissues. Taking it 2-4 times a day, in divided doses, more closely mimicks the way the healthy thyroid puts it out (in small increments throughout the day, and possibly night). T4 is the storage hormone, so this may not necessarily be so with it. I can't take T4-only because I need the direct action of the T3 on my tissues. Some people don't either convert to T3 well, or their tissues have more trouble absorbing it, so many people really like the Armour better because of this. It also has T1, T2, and calcitonin, in addition to 38 mcgs of T4 and 9 mcgs of T3, plus more safe fillers. All the T4 meds that I used to take seem to have something in them that my system can't tolerate, in addition to other said problems.
