Guest guest
Hello I believe I´m one of the new members here.. My grandfather was recently diagnosed with cirrhosis last month, after a couple of weeks of low blood sugar at night that caused him to be dilussional (well so we thought), low appetite, sleeping all day and blood in stool and coughfing.. We were asked if he was a heavy drinker, for wich we replied that he has´not have a drink in about 22 years or more and even then he was only a social drinker and he was not even very social.. But the subject came up if he ever had hepatitis, and he did have it when he was young.. So based on tests and being in the hospital for stabilization for a couple of weeks, the final diagnosis was.. Hepatic Cirrhosis.. Now he had 4 blood transfusions, he´s on lactulose and other meds, and he has an appointment for to have his veins tied on his esofagus... Al this is in Mexico (Tijuana) and not by private practice, all by the social security sistem.. So for now just like to say " Hi " , and learn from all of you on how to make my grandfather feel more confortable.. Thank you!!! > > I would like to welcome the two new members to our group. We are a group of people who have gathered together in the face of liver disease, to face it not alone and scared but to band together, share information, and experiences. Guest guest
Hi, . I'm so sorry to here about your Grandfather. His story sounds familiar. I have heard a lot of stories where a person's cirrhosis is found only when a person gets older. The only advice I have is to keep in mind that the hepatic encephalopathy might be very treatable, and that if he acts combative, or aggressive keep in mind that he doesn't know that he is doing this. He might say some thing hurtful, but it's not really his fault. My best friend did this. I found out that it was her liver and the ammonia talking , not her. So, I saved myself a lot of anguish. I'll say a prayer for your Grandfather. If you have any questions, let us/me know. Bobby. Re: Welcome new members Hello I believe I´m one of the new members here..
