Guest guest
benn i know this isnt putting pennies in your pocket, but when my daughter had bad colic and fennel/chamomile direct no longer helped the cranio-sacral man did the trick - and it never returned. Guest guest
Hi Benn when you say usual suspects does that include coffee and dairy? Also is the baby properly latched on to the breast....if her technique isn't great e.g. baby not got brilliant seal around areola, there may be air swallowed causing wind. It may be someone different giving evening bottle and that less air getting swallowed. Feeding position and technique can be poor even with mums who have breast fed before....big boobs particularly problematic for babies to deal with! good luck, > Message date : Mar 01 2004, 10:43 AM > From : " benn " > To : ukherbal-list > Copy to : > Subject : Treating baby through breast milk > Dear All, > > I have a 10 week old baby patient with colic. > > Food sources are breast milk until the evening and then one bottle of > SMA for the night. > > Problem is colic not after the SMA but the breast milk which gets worse > as the day progresses. Thanks, Lizzie, She has had cranial with no result; and, pennies aren't everything - peace of mind is much more valuable... Guest guest
when you say diet i guess you mean mother's diet? get her off all common allergens to start with and then use a food diary to see what's upsetting the baby. don't forget pulses, brassicas, onions... is she cleaning the breast with something the baby doesn't like? people do some odd things. gripe water? its only fennel but is more acceptable to some people who are worried about giving their baby herbs. how about tummy massage using a drop of chamomile oil? from babies i've had and treated, they seem to like a firm massage for belly ache - lie baby across the knee face down with one hand on the belly and the other on the small of the back and gently massage with one hand at a time. you can give mother tinctures of good gut relaxants and go for the teas - be insistent and confident. my youngest patient was 10 days old when he got addicted to chamomile - screamed for it! colic went. marianne ==================================================== nne Last BA MNIMH, Consultant Medical Herbalist Tel/Fax: 01600 719497 www.mariannelast.co.uk Treating baby through breast milk Dear All, I have a 10 week old baby patient with colic. Food sources are breast milk until the evening and then one bottle of SMA for the night. Problem is colic not after the SMA but the breast milk which gets worse as the day progresses. Diet avoids most of the known irritants to babies and the others will be excluded. My question - as mother is not willing to give baby herbal teas, apart from a small addition to the SMA of fennel and chamomile, what herbs are useful for treatment via breast milk? Background: Mother is very devoted to baby, is healthy and not stressed - her work is a nursery school teacher! I have tried mother drinking fennel tea for 2 weeks which has not proved effective and just recommended chamomile for mother and as a warm compress over baby's abdomen. I will need to treat in the next couple of days, so speedy comments or suggestions, please.
